Aishara

Aishara

Calla was still half asleep when the greenrider left. When he woke up
properly, he realized he was all alone in a weyr. It was one of those
weyrs you could only access by dragon. He was trapped. He had no idea
what to do. He wandered aimlessly in the weyr, used her bathroom.
Calling for help never occured to him. The day progressed and Calla
became agitated. He was supposed to be somewhere else, doing something,
like sweeping floors, peeling tubers, or washing dishes. The drudge was
growing hungry too. And she had nothing to eat in her weyr. People
were going to be angry at him, yell at him. Calla hated being yelled
at. Finally, he ended up sitting on the ledge, dangling his legs above
the ocean. He did think about jumping down but the sea looked too scary
and he was too high. His higher brain functions were damaged but there
wasn't anything wrong with his survival instinct.

It was late afternoon and Aishara was heading to her weyr to quick
change before meal. It was Ayumith that drew her attention to him.

}: He looks lost, :{ the green remarked and Aishara turned to follow
her gaze. The word lost was an accurate description. Calla looked both
lost and trapped.

** Perhaps he needs help, let's check it out,** Aishara replied and Ayumith
turned sharply right.

Calla got up and scooted quickly aside when he realized that the dragon was
landing on the ledge. It was not her and her green.

"Hello there! Do you need help?" the green's rider asked with a
friendly smile. Calla was very happy to see a friendly face and started
to stutter an explanation. The greenrider was very nice and patient
with him. She didn't interrupt or try to fill in the words for him,
like so many people did. She patiently waited until he was finished.

Aishara had some limited experience with half-wits from her childhood.
"So, she left you here and you can't get down," she said. "I can take
you down. Hop up," she offered him her hand and Ayumith formed a
leg-step up. Calla accepted the help gratefully but when he tried to
stutter a thank you, his tongue got stuck. She didn't mind.

They landed in front of the lower caverns and dismounted. Calla headed
for the food straight away. Aishara watched after him and frowned.

** It seems very cruel to me that she left him up there without any means
to get off that weyr,** she remarked to Ayumith.

** I don't want him to be punished because someone was so thoughtless.**
She went to search for the Headwoman. If she explained the situation to
her, perhaps Calla wouldn't get into trouble for missing his work.

Qorri was out in the Dining Cavern, making sure they had adequate
service on the floor. Watching everything with a steely eye, she
wouldn't allow the riders to manhandle her people and they knew it. Her
hands were on her hips. Every now and again, someone would come up and
ask her a question and she'd give them an answer, then they'd head off
in another direction.

"Excuse me, Headwoman. Can I talk with you?" Aishara approached her
with a respectable manner. Her face was unusually serious, almost grim.

"Aye, greenrider, what may I do for you?" Qorri's attention shifted,
focusing solely on Aishara for the moment.

"It's about the drudge with black and white hair, his name is Calla, I
believe. I found him in a predicament today," Aishara said.

"Yes Calla..what happened?" Qorri expected that perhaps Calla had
committed some sort of accident. That wasn't all too uncommon if he
wasn't properly supervised.

Aishara told her all about how she had found Calla stranded in a weyr and
rescued him. "You shouldn't blame him. He doesn't seem to be able to...
look after himself," she finished, hoping Calla wasn't in trouble because
of her.

"No he can't. Do you know whose weyr it was, by any chance?" Qorri's lips
thinned into a line, clearly upset about the matter but she was controlling
her temper. It wasn't Aishara's fault, after all.

"I'm afraid not. Perhaps Calla knows? I can pinpoint it if he doesn't,"
Aishara replied. She was sure the Headwoman had a map or something, so she
would know who lived where.

"No matter, I'll find out. Thank you for telling me." Qorri's mind was
already working and she sent someone to find Calla, meaning to wait for
him in her office.
