Description: Mai thinks she migh have some news for K'reyel...
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 1 of Turn 3
Mai was pacing nervously, glancing from the well-set table for dinner, to the ledge of the Weyr outside. K'reyel would be home from drills any minute now, and she didn't know how he was going to take her news, especially with all the sickness among the animals.
Tero flirted around her head, chittering in agitation in rhythm with her pacing, and she finally called the bronze flit to her to stroke him, thinking if she could calm him, she might calm herself in the process.
"Mai?" The bronzerider pulled off his jacket as he came into their weyr, slipping it onto a peg hung by the door for just that purpose. "Let me just take these straps off, I won't be a moment."
Mai swallowed her doubts, reminding herself K'reyel has said he wanted more children. He had _said_ so.. Out loud, though, she called back.
"Let me help you love, I've got a special dinner coming in a few minutes and I want us to be ready." And she wandered out to the entryway to help him.
"How can I say no?" he teased gently. Erdenth settled himself so that the pair of them could reach easily to finish unfastening the riding straps.
Mai grinned at him, pausing to kiss his cheek as she then pitched in with Erdenth. She chatted amiably with both dragon and rider, and they soon had Erdenth settled with Tero's help. As they finished, she winked. "Come inside, love. Did you want to wash up a bit before dinner? Its not quite here yet."
"Perhaps you could help me there?" he suggested. "There's this itchy spot..."
"I'd love to help you." She said softly, leading him inside to the bathing area. "Let's not get too distracted with itches that need scratching, though, or we'll miss dinner... and it's a special one."
When they stopped by the bathing pool, she leaned up to kiss him full on the lips.
"What did I do to deserve that?" His voice was muffled slightly as he lifted his shirt over his head.
"Well, isn't it alright for me to kiss you whenever I feel like it, hmm?" She teased, then helped him further out of his clothing with a playful pinch.
"Ow!" he exclaimed in mock anger. "Maybe I'll just have to drag you in here with me to scrub my back for that."
"Then we'll miss dinner for sure, love.. and speaking of that, I hear it arriving." A knock sounded on the door, and with one last kiss, she left him to his bath. "Hurry up!"
"I'll be quick!" was the reply as he shed the rest of his clothing and performed some very quick ablutions, emerging within a quarter of a candlemark. "Just let me put some clothes on, and I'm all yours."
"I like you just fine with clothes off, you know.. " She called, and busied herself setting up all the food. There was enough for more than two people, and she had planned it that way. She settled in the chair, grinning as he came out of the bath.
"That fine dinner might go cold," he teased slipping into their sleeping area to rapidly return a few moments later in pants and a loose shirt.
"Let's hope it doesn't..." Mai paused, looking at her weyrmate hesitantly. "K'reyel.. were you serious about wanting more children?"
"You know I was," he said.
"Well, let's hope so." She paused, watching his face. "I'm late on my cycle and I think I may be pregnant.."
"You think you're..." His voice trailed off as he looked at her, his eyes drawn down to her belly. Hopefully soon it would swell with a child of their own. "Oh Mai! That's wonderful news!"
Mai let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "I'm having all the signs, though it isn't certain. I'm going to see Abrei tomorrow, but I wanted to tell you tonight." She paused and went to him, sinking into his lap. How much longer would she _fit_ there? "OH K'reyel! A baby! A baby of our own.."
"A son, or a daughter..." he mused, holding her close. "I think the girls might like a baby brother!"
Mai smiled at him, leaning her head on his shoulder. "I think I might like to give you a son, my dearest weyrmate." She looked nervously at him. "Now is a good time, isn't it?"
"There's never been a better time."
"Well let's hope we have a son then.." She said, then looked up and kissed him, forgetting about dinner for a time.
K'reyel returned the kiss. Dinner could get cold for all he cared, this was the best news a man could have. Mai smiled and hoped quietly in her heart it was a son, she wanted to give K'reyel all the children he wanted and then some. Tomorrow, she'd see Abrei to be sure...
