Description: Teseada and P'nal talk about crafting and Weyr news over mealtime.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 11 of Turn 5
The Wingsecond had finished his daily duties. P'nal made his way to the
Dining Cavern, looking forward to having his meal. The brownrider went
through the line and then he sat down at the table where the Wingleaders
usually sat, pulling out a roll and patting it with butter.
"This seat taken?" Teseada had a rather laden tray in her hands.
P'nal looked up and saw the goldrider and almost choked, but he caught
himself. "Ah no. Please sit."
The tray was placed on the table and Teseada took the seat. "How are things
with your wing?" she asked.
"Going well so far. I have my feet beneath me now. And how are you and the
new Weyrwoman now that she's flying again?" P'nal didn't necessarily expect
an answer, since that might be goldrider business, but he could ask anyway.
"Settling back into things, but it won't be too long before she has to cover for me. The one thing we can be certain of is that Onnyth will rise in turn."
"Well enough. That must be odd...flying and then not flying. It would drive
me nuts to be grounded." He started to consider that, thinking about how
hard it might be.
"I can still help out," she pointed to the knots she wore, technician
colours still in them. "It's the one time I get to put some serious effort
into my project for walking the tables. I'm trying to come up with a better
valve to use on the agenothree tanks, one that'll control the flow better."
"Good luck with that. I don't think I'll ever go for my master's knots. As
it is I have enough to do. Of course I like being able to improve the Weyr
so it works out." P'nal had been shocked at first, but he was adjusting to
the idea.
"You have a craft?" asked Teseada politely. It was somewhat rare to see a
dragonrider who made it to the rank of Master.
"Senior Journeyman tanner," he replied easily.
"Well maybe one day you might get the chance to get those extra knots."
He shrugged, knowing as a rider in a Pass, the chances were that he would
end up as dust or /between/, but he didn't speak that thought. "It's
allright. I don't mind if I do or don't really. I'm happy with what I'm doing now. It's hard, but it's worthwhile."
"I'd at least like to finish my project. I'd started on it before I
Impressed, and I feel like I need to see it through. Plus it is something
that could really help us fight thread. Not to mention there would be an
excuse for a party if I did manage to walk the tables."
"That's true. The groundcrews could benefit from that to keep the burrows
from getting too far gone." Anything that helped them keep everything
threadfree was good in his book.
"My hope is that we won't need so many people on them after a while. A more
efficient tool means that it can be used quicker and easier."
"That's true, though they'll still have the same amount of land to cover."
He wondered if it would be safe for smaller groups to go walking around
in the South, with the felines and everything else.
"Maybe more, but smaller groups can cover the same area quicker."
"How is it flying the Queens' Wing? I always wondered. I mean you look up
and see all of us. That has to be awesome." He enjoyed his place, directing
the Wing, but he thought it would be interesting.
"I often wonder what it would be like to look down on the rest of the wings, I'm just grateful you do a good enough job to leave us so little to flame."
"Aye well can't be having threads raining down on all your heads. We have
to have eggs." That was a scary thought.
"I think Onnyth would agree with you."
He looked at his tray that was now mostly empty. "Well, I guess mealtime is
over. It was nice speaking with you."
"And to you too."
He took his leave of her and put his tray up, before heading off in search
of the harper who was going to help him with wing records.
