Description: Cardella and G'wen (and their dragons) have a heart-to-heart
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 14 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: J'nev, Aileyan, Teseada, D'nev
Cardella had been searching for G'wen for the past half candlemark.
She'd hardly seen her close friend in what felt like days outside of
lessons. "G'wen?" She called as she rounded a corner where Awenth had
told her Neath said he'd gone. The simple fact that she'd been able to
ask her green to seek our her friend had saved her countless time in
finding G'wen.
When she finally spotted him, she hurried to his side and threw her
arms around him. "Where have you been? I swear I've hardly seen you
for the past three days!" She finally released him and stepped back,
waiting to
hear his reply.
"Cardella!" G'wen shouted and returned her hug. He shifted the large
pot of oil he had just gotten from one of E'naer's assistants so it
didn't hit her ribs when she hugged him. Neath had been growing so
fast that regular oil wasn't able to keep her hide soft enough. To
Cardella's question he held up the pot. "She's outgrowing me."
Indeed, the green now towered over her lifemate.
"She sure is!" Cardella turned to Neath. "Hello Neath. You look
stunning today." Then turning back to G'wen she spoke again, "Awenth
wanted to nap, _again_. I swear all she does is eat, sleep, nap, and
you know." She snorted a bit at that. "Can I help you oil her? I don't
need to oil Awenth for at least a few more hours."
"Can you help?" G'wen laughed and looked from Cardella to his tall
green. "Look at the size of her! I need all the help I can get." It
dismayed him somewhat that, at only a month old, Neath was already
half the size of T'bel's Fanth. And here he had fantasized about
washing tiny dragons and being back in his bunk in the same candlemark
as when he left. He snorted a bit at his own delusions.
"Sure," Cardella said with a smile, never afraid of hard work. Awenth
would be wanting her own oiling soon, once she awoke, that is.
Reaching for the pot, Cardella began to work the oils into the
dragon's hide. It made her realize just how much bigger Neath was than
Awenth already.
}:I am _not_ small!:{ Came the disgruntled, sleepy voice of her own
green. **No, of course not. That isn't what I was thinking.** Cardella
could hear the affront in Awenth's tone. Then, in an instant she knew
Awenth was making her way towards them.
"Uh, oh. I think Awenth is angry that I'm helping," Cardella glanced
back to see her little green making her way rather forcefully across
the bowl of the Weyr, heading straight for them.
G'wen had to giggle a bit at the way that Awenth looked a bit like
Gennith at the Hatching. Slapping Neath on the flank, he said, "here
comes company for you, love!"
}:Hello little Awenth, how are you today?:{
}:Little Awenth?:{ The green hissed, turning her eyes towards Neath
with what could only be considered a glare.
Swiveling her head, she gazed intently first at Cardella and then at
G'wen. }:You spend time with the likes of these? Neath believes
herself to be better than the rest of us. Let hers deal with her.
_You_ belong with me.:{
"Calm down Awenth. I'm sure Neath didn't mean to sound hurtful."
Cardella glanced at G'wen, raising her eyebrows to indicate she didn't
know what to do. Would two dragons actually turn on each other if they
pushed things too far? Cardella honestly didn't know.
Taking her cue, G'wen held up a hand close to Awenth's head knobs.
"Hello, you're looking beautiful! Is it okay to give you a caress?"
Neath wouldn't mind. Indeed, she had sat back on her hindquarters and
hummed at her clutchmate. Turning to Cardella, he added, "there's no
reason why we both can't oil Awenth now too. Neath is pretty much
done."
Awenth seemed to settle at both their words and Neath's gentle
resonance. She lifted her head and gave a little wiggle as a way to
show she liked G'wen's suggestion.
}:I would like that mine,:{ She told Cardella and feeling calmer gave
a bit of an apology hum towards Neath.
"She said yes," Cardella said, breathing a sigh of relief and smiling
brightly at G'wen.
"Ah, good." He reached out and softly caressed her head knobs. Neath
crooned }:she's growing well:{
**Yes, she is. Can you_please_try and play nice, just once?**
The big green grumbled at that and turned to Cardella, nudging her
hand for a pat. Cardella smiled as she patted Neath and Awenth both.
"I think we're in for an interesting bout of time with these two," she
said with a chuckle and a little laugh. "Shall we get started on that
oiling now?"
"Yes, let's." G'wen walked around to the far side of Awenth and began
oiling her flank. "She's got a really dry spot here, Car, have you
seen it?" Looking closer at it, he then eyed his friend. "Did
you_hear_about what happened with P'kay the other day?"
"What?" Cardella gasped as she hurried over to G'wen's side. Awenth
had a dry spot? How could that be? Cardella was meticulous about
checking her. How had she missed this?
**Dear Awenth, I'm so sorry,** She told her lifemate, who quickly
responded, }:It just started to itch when I woke. I feel bigger mine.
I must have grown in my sleep.:{ Awenth puffed up her chest in pride.
Cardella couldn't help but giggle a bit.
Looking over to G'wen she told him, "Awenth thinks she's grown _alot_
in her sleep and that must be the cause of the dry spot." She rolled
her eyes at him a bit to let him know what she thought of that.
Grabbing the oil she, too, started to press the slippery liquid into
Awenth's hide. "So, what happened to P'kay the other day?"
G'wen stiffled a laugh and said, "I think I'd have to agree with
Awenth. She certainly looks bigger than when I saw her last night.
What do you say Neath?"
}:She's not as big as me:{ she sniffed.
**Neath! Do you think Onnyth would say something like that?**
Neath looked rebellious, then thoughtful, before broadcasting to
Awenth, }:I agree with my lifemate, you_do_look taller since last
night.:{
Satified his green was going to behave, G'wen turned back to Cardella.
"Oh, he tried on his Holder ideals of the 'role' of women to Catrien's
mother the other day. Boy did she let him have it!"
Awenth preened under the attention from the two riders and her fellow
green. }:Thank you, Neath. You look rather radiant today, almost like
a queen.I think, we shall get along after all, you and I.:{ Awenth
knew how much the other green longed to be like the golds that flew
the sky. Not Awenth. She would not wish for their life at all. She
loved knowing she could be the very best green she could.
As Cardella continued to rub the oils into Awenth's hide she snickered
at bit at G'wen's story. "Well, I would guess that P'kay got exactly
what he deserved if he did that!"
"Yeah, speaking of Holder louts, have you seen N'den lately? Geez, he
looks really depressed. Wonder if we should actually try and talk
with him." He patted Awenth. "There you go lovely, all done!"
Awenth wiggled her body a bit as the pair finished their oiling.
Satisfied with the result, she nodded to G'wen and spoke to Cardella,
}:I like him. He is a good friend to you. His and I will get along,
too.:{ Cardella could hear the hint of humor in Awenth's tone. She
knew that even though Awenth _said_ she would get along with Neath,
that didn't mean her fiery little green wouldn't try and push her
clutchmate a bit now and then.
"Go bask in the sun, Awenth. I want to talk to G'wen a bit." Cardella
gave her green a loving pat and watched as she waddled away to find a
good sunny spot not far from her lifemate.
Looking G'wen in the eye, Cardella asked, "How much do you trust
T'bel's impressions of the other riders?"
The boy looked thoughtful as he watched Neath curl up next to Awenth.
"Well...he's a right pain in the arse sometimes...but if he says
someone's a jerk I find that he's right 99% of the time. He can
overexagerate sometimes but that's usually someone that he may have
slept with in the past, or a Holder boy." He looked over at her,
adding, "one redeaming quality he has is he doesn't like bully types
very well. If he could have ever gotten his hands on Berren, that boy
would have been flayed alive! I think he's got a soft spot for Holder
girls who Impress green. He and Hanni always have their heads
together. Why's that?"
"Oh, I was just curious. He mentioned something to me
about...someone..." Cardella looked at G'wen with an uncertain almost
pained expression. "It's J'nev. T'bel doesn't seem to like him all
that much, and well...I don't understand why."
"Ah, well, J'nev tripped him up on purpose at Ailyan's birthday and
from what I heard, upset her_a lot_and basically did his best to ruin
her day." He shifted around uncomfortably, feeling a sense of loyalty
to Teseada and not wanting to talk about her brother. "Um...has he
told you much about his da and Teseada and all? I mean, I don't know,
but it would seem to me that he's a bit hurtful to others because of
that. He's good to you though, right?" He felt a stab of guilt and
fear that Cardella had been led down a path to being used and he had
stood by, not doing a thing.
"Teseada? J'nev is seeing Teseada, too?" Cardella's brows furrowed.
She wished she had understood more of life in the Weyr before she'd
given a part of her heart to J'nev. The more she learned about the
fact that a lot of riders could not commit to one person, the more she
realized she knew so little about relationships. Was J'nev someone who
would want to mate with the same person or was he like so many of the
others, seeing many at the same time?
"He wasn't nice to Aileyan? That doesn't sound like the J'nev I've
gotten to know. He's always seemed so nice to me, how could he treat
others poorly? You're _sure_ it was J'nev?"
G'wen winced, feeling he had hurt Cardella in some way, with his
words. This is why he never liked gossip, it never made things better.
Stumbling a bit with his words, he said, "now don't get too upset.
Tes is his sister. Well, half sister, but you knew that, right? He's
told you about his da and all that?" He sighed when he saw the look
on her face. How much did Cardella actually know about J'nev? Hating
himself for having to say this, he opened his mouth, "Car, you_do_know
about J'nev, don't you? I mean, he's a bronze rider and all...and I'm
only saying this because you're my friend..my best friend...but he's
not a nice guy." He kicked the ground, wishing himself anywhere but
here.
"Oh," Cardella replied, knowing that G'wen would never hurt her on
purpose. Yet, his words felt like a knife piercing her heart. "T'bel
suggested I talk to Aileyan. Do you think she would know more? I mean,
could he really be nice to me, yet so different? How can people be
like that, G'wen?" She was truly confused, for Cardella found
deception hard to grasp
"I know Car, let's just nip this in the bud right now. Neath, can you
ask Fanth where her's is? Tell her we need to talk with T'bel right
now." He wrapped an arm around Cardella and have her shoulder a
squeeze. Any more words from him would do nothing but hurt his friend
more, and be second-hand besides.
}:Fanth says her's will meet you two in the dinning hall, at once:{
Neath nuzzled Awenth. }:Perhaps we can use the time to practice wing
strengthening, would you like that, sister?:{
Turning back to Cardella, Gwen said, "okay, T'bel's agreed to met us
in the dinning hall as soon as. I think the best thing to do is to
talk with him directly about your fears about your guy and see what he
has to say. Does that sound good?"
Cardella nodded, though she found it harder to smile than she had when
she'd first run into G'wen. So much had been happening lately, it was
all overwhelming. The crude words from the others in the dining hall
yesterday had only added fuel to the fire and pushed her to ask the
questions that now left her feeling like someone had drilled a hole
through her gut.
}:I _would_ like that sister.:{ Awenth nuzzled Neath back, glad to
finally have made peace with her clutchmate at last. }:We can show off
our beautiful wings together!:{
