Teseada

Teseada

Sitting down beside the young goldrider, G'wen groaned and muttered,
"I'm_so_knackered. Does it get any better after Weyrlinghood?"

It had been a long day with more sack throwing and then weight training
after. Not to mention that Neath had been slightly sick from her last meal
and he had to clean her wallow up after. And change his sheet where she had
gotten the corner. And he had promised his father that he'd help him oil
Manarth. The man's left arm was still giving him problems and washing and
oiling the blue was harder work than he could take, what with T'bel being on
transport duty and not around to help. G'wen noted, with some annoyance,
that everyone at the table had drinks in front of them when all he was still
allowed to have was fruit juice.

"Just you wait until you have to fly through a fall, then wash and oil a
fully grown dragon, then deal with hidework. Then you can say you're
knackered," Teseada's tone showed she wasn't totally serious, but from her
point of view - well there was an awful lot more of Onnyth than there was
of Neath.

"Yeah, and that's the real reason I never stood for a gold egg," he laughed
and winked at her. "That, and I'm a boy. At least you get to drink this,"
and he tapped her glass. "I'm still stuck with juice."

"Not for much longer, restrictions will be lifted sooner than you think."

"Yeah, there is that. Wonder what F'neb's up to these days?" He assumed
he'd spend his first night when the restrictions were lifted with the blue
rider.

"I'm not sure," Teseada said after what might be too long a moment. "I've
been busy, not really seen him for a while."

"Oh?" He hadn't missed that pregnate pause. "You're not sure, or is there
something you don't want to say?"

"You might want to talk to him," Teseada advised.

"Why? Has he gotten injured or something?" The boy wracked his brain but he
couldn't remember him being hurt.

"Are you talking about F'neb?" one of the girls at the table asked. "I
think he's still asleep up in my weyr. Do you need me to get him out
of it for something?"

"What do you mean?" G'wen asked, looking from her to Teseada. "What's she
on about, Tes?"

"F'neb's blue chased her green the other day," Teseada told G'wen hurriedly.

"Yeah, don't tell anyone yet," the girl said, leaning into G'wen and
giggling. "But we're kind of talking about becoming weyrmates. I mean,
I_know_we're young and all, but well...we've just connected really well.
And since the Flight..well, y'know..." She blushed and smiled contentedly.

"Yeah, he's a nice guy..." G'wen's voice trailed off. He blinked hard as
his insides felt as if they were being squeezed together. Giving Teseada a
hurt glance, he wondered why she hadn't told him.

"And flights do sometimes give things that extra edge." Teseada then turned
to see G'wen's face. "I thought that you'd have caught up with F'neb the
other day, I'd have sworn i saw you talking to him."

"That probably would have been J'nor. He's a Weyrling in my class."
He could feel his throat closing up and brutally pinched his leg under
the table. This girl next to him didn't need to know and it wasn't
like he and F'neb had any plans to be with one another once the
Weyrling restrictions were lifted. This had just been his own
assumption.

"I'm sorry G'wen," she said softly. "I really thought you knew."

"I do now." He stood and left, trying not to cry until he was in the
darkness of outside.
