The sound of dragons humming broke the 'silence' of the Weyr. It was a sound anyone who'd lived in the Weyr and experienced a Hatching knew. Initiated by the queen dragon, the rest of the dragons were almost compelled to join in. Finally, the level of noise would reach an almost hypnotizing and steady rhythm and then you just _knew_.

Jaela had been on pins and needles for days, so she'd already arranged for riders for honored guests. She spent a few moments sending notes to those riders assigned to that duty, then one quick note to the Headwoman. She thanked the blue skies above that Traelyn had managed to take over so many duties since it left her time to worry about other things she'd have otherwise simply tossed in the hands of the Headwoman alone. This time, they'd been able to have the menu arranged, and the non-perishable food at the ready.

After changing into a gown suitable for the soon-to-be arrived holders, Jaela walked the short distance to D'wrayt's weyr and knocked, grinning up at him when he opened the door. "I hope you're ready. I'm sure Treadoryth is!"

"How could I not be! I've had the entire Weyr of dragons in my head since the humming began. I'm going to need some wine before this is all over, I can't remember it being this hard to block out before." He said as he ushered into his weyr. He had put on his best gather outfit which displayed the Weyr's colors throughout and made him look quite splendid according to his daughters.

The bronze was impatiently waiting on the ledge for them. Treadoryth wanted to get back to his mate and their eggs. It was going to be a fine day for Dragonsfall and he wanted all to know it.

"He's impatient, she's impatient. I think we and our arriving guests are holding them up!" Jaela laughed and patted Treadoryth's neck affectionately as D'wrayt made sure she was settled before he mounted the large bronze as well.

"If they had their way, I think they would start without us." D'wrayt said in agreement as the bronze set off towards the Sands. He helped the Weyrwoman down and chuckled as Treadoryth went to join his mate. Making their way to the stands, they passed groups of nervous candidates and manuevered around the arriving guests.

Jaela let the excitement wash over her as she and D'wrayt found their seats and got comfortable. The first of the riders assigned to give transport to honored guests started filtering in, seating their charges and Jaela nodded politely to Lord Alalir and his two sons as they were seated, as well as a few other well to do Holders.

The dragons' humming had only increased, the sound filling the Hatching Grounds. She grinned indulgently at Treadoryth and Calyth as they watched the eggs on the sand and she couldn't help wonder who would Impress the little queen who would soon emerge.

D'wrayt had always enjoyed the hatchings as he had the advantage of hearing the baby dragonets as they searched for their lifemates. The little ones were very loud and easy to pick out from the rest of the Weyr's dragons. He enjoyed the solitude of being able to finally shut out the dragons for a moment at least.

"I believe we shall see our first hatchling shortly. The dragons voices have quieted somewhat." D'wrayt said excitedly as he scanned the eggs that lay before them. His eyes rested briefly on the gold egg and he smiled at the thought of having a gold weyrling.

Moments after that thought, the first egg began to shake. Jaela gripped D'wrayt's hand and leaned forward. A hairline fracture appeared on the mottled surface of the egg and with agonizing slowness, began to widen. Finally, to the sound of excited murmurs, the first dragonet burst from the shattered egg and loudly announced her arrival, her green hide slimy and bits of shell still stuck to her head.

A group of candidates turned and she ignored them all, stumbling fitfully toward a boy standing farthest away. A look of awareness hit the lad's face and then it was transformed by joy as the dragonet finally reached him.

"She said her name is Finth!" The new weyrling cried and Jaela laughed and clapped with the others. She always remembered the candidate who Impressed first from all of Calyth's hatchings.

}:I remember too..:{ Calyth added proudly, before turning to watch as several other eggs began to crack.

D'wrayt watched the young green find her rider and smiled remembering his Impression day. It wasn't anything he was expecting as he hadn't even been on the Sands that day as a candidate.

}:I found you all the same, didn't I?:{ Treadoryth interjected, amused at his rider's thoughts.

**Yes, you did. Let us watch your clutch find their riders and see who our newest goldrider will be.** D'wrayt replied turning his attention back to the hatching dragonets when he heard several announcements of who had been chosen simetaneously.

It always seemed that things happened so suddenly after the first shell was cracked and this time was no different. Soon, there were only one or two eggs left, among them the golden egg which had yet to start cracking. Jaela was beginning to feel slightly uneasy at the delay. Her hand gripped D'wrayt's. Almost as if the little queen sensed her concern, the gold egg began to rock steadily.

"Finally..." Jaela breathed, leaning forward anxiously. Her hand only tightened on her Weyrleader's as a large crack appeared in the egg and, as dramatically as the delay had been, the queen managed to emerge with even more flair, bursting from the shell amid exclaimations and sighs of excitement and glee.

The golden dragonette was anything but graceful, and she stumbled about, creeling anxiously and falling over her feet as she tried to reorient herself. The female candidates had formed a cluster and suddenly the little queen seemed to spot them and moved over to them, once again tripping in her progress before her claws found purchase in the sand and she persistantly kept moving forward. The girls spread out, and Jaela thanked their good training as they calmly waited for the golden one to make her choice.

She never wavered, never hesitated. The dragons, no matter what colour, always _knew_, even if the future rider was completely clueless. Moving forward, the little queen all but fell into a startled girl's arms and Teseada became the proud new lifemate to the first queen sired by Calyth and Treadoryth of Dragonsfall.
