Taeshin was sitting in the Dinning Cavern, already dressed in his all
white Candidate outfit. The humming that was the dragon's serenade to
encourage the soon to be hatched dragonets had been steadily going for
sometime now. Taeshin nervously sat at a table, thinking back on how
many times he had felt like this before. How many times had the
dragon's birthing song woken him up. How many times had he donned the
candidate's whites and sat nervously anticipating the eminent
Hatching. How many times had he filed into the Hatching Grounds, only
to return without being bonded to a new born dragon. Time after time
the routine had been the same, and time after time he had come back a
jaded and depressed and increasingly angry.
** _This_ time it has got to be different. This time it _is_ going to
be different!** Taeshin though to himself, gripping his robe with
fervor.
His thought process was interrupted as a member of the weyrling staff
found him in the cavern, and told him to move quickly to the Hatching
Grounds. The other candidates were all lining up there, and some of
the eggs were rocking rather hard. Taeshin nodded to the man, and
flat out ran to the entrance of the huge cavern that formed the
Hatching Grounds. Most of the candidates were already gathered there,
chatting nervously to each other. Several of the candidates eyed
Taeshin wearily, knowing that he had almost not been allowed to Stand.
Taeshin ignored their looks, and just starred into the massive
cavern, trying to calm himself and empty his mind of all fear of not
Impressing.
Quickly the herd of candidates made their way onto the heated Sands
and began to form a loose semi circle around the eggs and Angdelouth
who was standing guard. All too soon the eggs began to hatch. A
little green was the first to break from her shell and make her way to
her chosen rider. Taeshin looked at the two briefly before turning
his attention back towards the rocking and cracking eggs. Just a
short time after the little green came a bronze. Taeshin watched the
bronze make his way to Tanom. **Way to go Tanom!** Taeshin thought to
himself, as he watched his friend and his new dragon partner make
their way off the sands. Like Taeshin, Tanom had Stood a number of
times without Impressing, and he was a little older than Taeshin, so
his chances were running out. Taeshin was really happy for Tanom
because he knew he would make a great rider.
Taeshin turned his attention back to the eggs, and watched as
dragonets burst from their egg shell cages, to wander through the ever
diminishing group of candidates to make Impression with that special
one. As the number of eggs began to dwindle down, a feeling began to
come over Taeshin. At first he thought it was the same feeling of
failure that came over him as the number of eggs dwindled to nothing
and he realized he wasn't going to Impress, but that wasn't it. This
feeling was one of joy and happiness and connection, and strangely
enough hunger. Something butted at Taeshin and he looked into the
most beautiful pair of multi-colored eyes he had ever seen and would
ever see again.
}: Sorry you waited so long, but you are mine and I am here now :{
Raisheth said to his human.
Taeshin could do nothing but give a cry of surprise and hug the neck
of his beautiful brown life-mate. ** Oh Raisheth. It was worth the
wait, it was _so_ worth the waiting! **
Taeshin looked at his dragonet through tear filled eyes, an exuberant
smile on his face. Raisheth was a deep brown color, lightening into a
tan color on his underbelly and the tip of his tail. He was on the
larger in for a brown, but no where near some of the larger brown
dragonet's Taeshin had seen, who rivaled some of the smaller bronzes.
His wings, still newly wet but quickly drying were very fragile
looking, but Taeshin new with growth and age that would change.
Taeshin just continued to stare in awe and joy at Raisheth until he
was interrupted.
}: T'aesh, I am _very_ hungry, and the others are already eating. :{
Raisheth said, a pleading note in his voice.
** Of course my heart. Let's go feed you ** T'aesh said, not the list
bit surprised that Raisheth had known he had chosen T'aesh as his
rider name many turns ago, in honor of his rider father R'aesh. Their
bond was complete, and T'aesh would never hide anything from Raisheth
now that they were together.
