Quite the Snotty One

Writers: Chelle, Len
Date Posted: 17th May 2011

Characters: G'wen, P'nal
Description: Jodeth and Neath meet each other, with the poor brown being berated.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 5 of Turn 6

Even though she hadn't taken flight yet, Neath still roared her
frustration when the herdbeast she had picked out to catch and eat was
taken by a brown before she had gotten the chance at it. }:That was
mine!:{ she told the older dragon.

Beside her, G'wen slid down to the ground with a groan, knowing she
was at her worst, today. It was too early in the morning to try and
correct her behavior. He'd need at least one cup of klah in his
stomach before having to face_that_task.

}:I did not see your name on it:{ Jodeth replied laconically as he began
to land in order to eat.

}:It was, you just can't obviously read:{ she retorted. She sat back
on her haunches to see what he'd make of that remark.

}:As I am a wingsecond, I shall wager I read better than you, weyrling:{
He continued to eat, though the conversation was amusing. }:You are
welcome to leftovers if you like:{

She sniffed. }:From a brown? Please...you're not even the biggest one here:{

}:No I am not. Thus the better to catch wily greens with m'dear:{ he mentally
chuckled as he felt the meat go down his gullet to his stomach. Once Jodeth
was full, he moved aside. Some other creature would likely eat the remains.

}:You'd have to work harder than that to catch me!:{ Pretty words
were not impressive to her.

}:Harder than what?:{ Jodeth was confused. Last he knew, he was eating, not
working. Allowing his food to settle, he found a good spot in the warm light
to curl up and sun.

Neath did the dragon equivalent of shaking her head. }:You_were_just
bragging your brown arse about how you catch lots of greens,
remember?:{ Really, the memory of some of her co-dragons was
shocking.

}:Never said I caught a lot of them. Just said my size does help:{ Although
Jodeth did pretty decent. It also helped that there were a lot of greens and
they tended to rise often. The law of averages was on the brown's side.

}:Then it sounds like your size does_not_help and all you're being is
a braggart.:{

}:How am I a braggart if I gave you an honest answer?:{ This was beginning
to be interesting.

She sniffed at that and stuck her nose in the air. Really, if he was
going to boast of something and then take it back in the very next
sentence, then he wasn't worth talking to. It wasn't like he was some
good looking bronze anyways.

}: Seems you're quite the snotty one, weyrling :{ he pointed out easily,
getting up to go to where she was. He dwarfed her as he settled there.

}:Why? Because I have high standards and am not the typical dizzy
green?:{ Really, the nerve of some male dragons.

}:There really is no thing as a typical green. Every dragon is different.
And you should not put your sisters down that way:{ Jodeth was beginning
to think she needed to take it down a peg or two.

"Neath..." Beside her, G'wen had had enough. At this rate, with her
attitude, he'd have nothing to worry about with her first Flight.
There'd be no males left that she hadn't insulted. He recognized the
brown as the Weyrleader's Second's lifemate.

Eying him, Neath sniffed. }:My rider thinks I have to be nice to
you.:{ she sniffed again to let him know what she thought of that.

}:He is wise. One mark of intelligence is knowing who outranks you
and what that means. My rider has the power to discipline yours and
one day, you may find yourself flying under us:{ Jodeth wondered if they
had had that lesson yet.

}:Of course he's wise. Why would I have chosen him in the first
place?:{ She was the first female out of the egg, she could have
chosen anyone. But she chose G'wen. She nuzzled the boy who wasn't
particularly feeling very special at the moment and was nervously
looking for any sign of P'nel.

}:I chose mine because he is strong, careful, and steady:{ Jodeth
replied, knowing his rider also had other qualities that suited them
to each other.

}:Where is your's? Mine is nervous of him for some reason:{

}:He meets with the Weyrleader. Have you not learned about rank,
Neath?:{ Surely she understood the concept as it was with dragons.

At that she sighed mightily. }:You males like pulling it, that I know.:{

}:Rank exists so that there is a structure. Without structure, there is
chaos. You understand that you cannot fly a full threadfall on your own,
right?:{ The brown hoped his point would be made.

Neath glared at him and refused to answer, sticking her nose back in
the air.

}:Ah then, little green, you will grow and you will learn to understand.
We are all a team and the rest of us carry each other:{ Jodeth chuckled
under his breath and made to head off in search of warmer resting places.

}:In the meantime, I'm hungry,:{ she told G'wen, }:Let's get away from
this blowhard and go get a herdbeast.:{

G'wen gave the brown an apologetic look and followed his huffy green
as she walked away.
