Description: Sh'del visits Meledei in the infirmary.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 12 of Turn 6
Meledei shifted, gasped and then slowly let out the air she had
caught. It was still painful, but the healers wanted her to move even
if it was just a little. No pressure, so she couldn't try to walk,
but moving a little was good. She was going to have to move even
more, get that leg so that the scarring would be lessoned and doing so
would be by working it out. Meledei didn't think she liked the sound
of that at all. She fell back on the pillow, her left side tingling a
little. She couldn't even quite roll onto her back because of the
positioning of the score. Maybe having extra pillows would help. She
could prop up on those. Her eyes closed, dizziness assaulting her.
Yeah, maybe the pillows.
"Meledei?" A soft voice hit her.
Meledei's eyes opened and immediately her lips spread into a smile.
"Hey Sh'del." The healers were still rummaging around her, but she
was mostly done, except for fellis. They wanted her awake a little
longer and then they would give her the fellis. Meledei would be
looking forward to that, but having a visitor would certainly help
distract her.
The burly man sat down beside her, feeling deflated. There was
nothing worse than seeing a woman injured, in his mind. He wanted to
make it better, and couldn't. "How you feeling, kid?"
Meledei did her best to hide the wince. Even the slightest motion was
painful, though that wasn't as bad as her actually trying to move
herself. "Could be worse." She stated with that smile flick.
"Well yeah, you could be dead." Sh'del gave her a look.
"Well, yes, this is true." Meledei closed her eyes, then let them
open and she met that gaze, her own almost piercing. "But I'm not."
She stated firmly.
"Good." He matched her look with his own. "So...what happened?"
"I'm..." Meledei had already gotten quite a few visitors, but there
was only one she had told about the green before this. "It came from
behind me...it...it should have been taken care of, but one of the
greens wasn't quite where she was supposed to be."
Sh'del nodded. "That happens." He glanced down at the floor, at a
loss for words. Trouble, on the other hand, hopped off his shoulder
and curled up under the girl's chin.
Meledei managed a soft laugh and reached up to scritch the little
firelizard. "Thanks, Trouble." She murmured to the creature. "It's
nice to know I'm loved. Anyway, the healers say it's not that bad but
I'll be bed bound a few days, then on crutches for a while until the
pain is more bearable."
"Well, that's what fellis is for, don't think you need to be brave and
not take it." He gave her a wry smile.
"I"ll take it if I need it." Meledei assured him though she wasn't going
to take a _lot_ of it. She didn't need that stuff addling her mind.
"Excuse me." A healer stepped into the small curtained off room, the big
man gave Sh'del a smile and Vandor nodded to Meledei. "I need to take a
look at your dressing."
"Lovely." Meledei just enjoyed having that done _so_ much.
"I'll leave you to it then, take good care of her." At that, Sh'del
stood up and gave the girl a kiss on the forehead. "Trouble can stay
with you for a bit. If you need anything, just send her off for it."
"Thanks Sh'del." Meledei gave him a smile. "I do appreciate it."
She just hoped she wasn't going to be stuck in that infirmary for
long!
