"Ah, M'gelec, please come in and don't mind the mess. I'm still moving in," U'das called, after spotting the Weyrlingmaster's second from his open office door. His office was indeed a mess, things looking for their places.
"So I see." He carefully picked his way through the maze of piles to the chair in front of the new Wingleader's desk. M'galec gave his fellow bronzerider a polite smile. "Congratulations, U'das, on your promotion."
"Thank you. How are you doing with your newest class?" the older bronzerider thanked and asked.
"They're doing well, I'd say." Of course, this was his _first_ new_ class... "There are those who are still adjusting, and those who think they can push ahead farther than is necessary, but they will all be trained well, rest assured."
"I'm sure they will," U'das agreed. **Especially when you're there to stick to every rule and paragraph.**
"I believe you had some new riders to Torrent wing?"
"Yes, a few in fact. I think you will find that they will fit in well." Well, except for that one bluerider M'galec thought didn't belong in a wing yet at all, but U'das could not blame _him_ for that choice.
"That's to be seen. Do you have their files?"
"Right here." M'galec handed the Wingleader the files.
U'das gave them a quick glance thru. "Anything special I should know about these youngsters?"
The Weyrlingmaster Second thought for a moment. "Well, between you and I, I would watch the bluerider, P'town. I think he will be a bit of a handful. J'an might not agree with me however."
"I'll keep an eye on him. What is his problem? Immaturity, trouble adjusting to weyrlife?" U'das asked, mentioning two of the most common problems with weyrlings.
M'galec shook his head. "Trouble with authority, in my opinion."
U'das raised an eyebrown. "Really? I'll keep that in mind. There's ways to deal with it."
"Of course, that is only my opinion, sir. But I am sure you will decide for yourself."
"I'm sure I will, after I learn to know him," U'das said. He tried to avoid judging people he didn't know. That included M'galec. His first impression of the young bronzerider wasn't very flattering. "I heard you're doing healing besides being a weyrlimaster's second?"
"Yes sir. I'm a surgeon," the Second nodded.
"Well, that's certainly usefull profession to a dragonrider. Much more usefull than being a seacrafter. Althoug the knowledge of maps has been usefull for me."
"Threadfall surgery has become my specialty," M'galec nodded. "But seacrafting is a respectable trade. How far did your studies progress?" Not far, probably. He wouldn't have practice much after Impressing, he was fairly sure.
"Well, was junior apprentice when I impressed. I was supposed to become a captain of my own ship, but when Zack came into the picture, I switched to the cartography. I made it to the senior journeyman before we get too busy with preparing for the Thread's return."
"Ah, cartography. That's something you _could_ do adragonback," M'galec nodded.
"Yes, and it makes drawing threadfall charts easier" U'das nodded.
"And I'm sure your knowledge of weather patterns you would have learned from your sailing days too."
U'das nodded, and glanced around. "I should really get this place organized" he said with apolegetic voice. He had actually enjoyed the discussion with M'galec.
"Of course. I will leave you to it then." Surprisingly, so did M'galec.
"I'll let you know how the new riders settle in," the wingleader promised, his mind already turning towards other things. Like how in Pern he was going to get all his stuff organized. He just hated moving.
