Date: month 2, day 4 of Turn 6

He sat in his office, waiting for the masters to come. They needed to
discuss some of the last minute details. The Gather was a month away
and Sarban wanted to be ready. The Steward looked down at his notes
again. Most of the things were set.

Aivorn knocked on the door. "You wanted to see, Sarban?" he asked.

Just behind him was the Master Healer. "Me also?"

"Aye come in gentlemen. We have a few things to discuss for next month."
He had chairs for them and food if they wanted it.

Aivorn pulled a chair for himself. He was very curious to hear what kind of
business would involve both stablemaster and the hold's master healer.

Miranek took a seat, and a plate with some small pastries on it. "So tell us what you have planned."

"Next month we will be having a Gather. It will celebrate the Lord Holder's
birthingday, his anniversary, and the moving in of some of the harpers to
the harper hall. We've invited most of the dignitaries as well as the
traders and our folk. The Lord Holder is unaware of it." Sarban gave them both a look that said he wanted to keep it that way. "Aivorn, we will be having races so you'll need to ready for that. Miranek, the holders coming may not have another chance to see a healer for some time. We'll also likely have some accidents."

"It'll be the one jockey who decides that he'll never fall that we'll see in the infirmary," said the healer.

"Yeah, the idiot one," Aivorn grunted. "Well, races are always popular," he
said to the Steward. "I've been thinking, we need something to fill the time between starts, so...what about a dressage show? To show people what a
well trained runner and rider can do."

"If you want to perform an exhibition with judging, you're more than
welcome. How many qualified judges could we get at such short notice?"
Sarban didn't exactly know what that was, but he knew _of_ it.

"Enough, I believe. Green Valley has a few good ones as well as Red Rush
Hold," Aivorn replied.

"I'm sure that would go down well," Miranek said. "Perhaps we could ask the
Weyrleader or the Weyrwoman to sit on the panel as well. I'm sure there
would be plenty who would be thrilled to meet them."

"Perhaps, if either of them know anything about runnerflesh. Miranek, how
are your supplies looking? Will we have enough to make things through or do
I need to increase some of the tributes from the minor holds?" Sarban looked down at his lists with the amounts.

"We'll need some cotton in for bandages. There will be more than a few cuts
and scrapes that will just need cleaning and covering. And probably willow
bark as well for those who enjoy our hospitality a little too much - I
suspect we'll have a good few sore heads to deal with."

"Mmmm...I'm going to have to get with Zandan to warn him. He may have to
get some temporary recruits for this." He nodded to himself, writing a note. "We don't want any trouble, especially with the arrival of the female
harpers."

"I hope there won't be problems with that. But if we keep the tone of the
day happy, people might not really notice too much until afterwards."

"Having a good day usually puts people in a tolerant mood," Aivorn agreed.
"Of course, there are those who have too much fun with the alcohol."

"I'll let Journeyman Rendaf deal with them. He has a special tea, and his
own unique brand of sympathy that usually persuades the affected to take a
good long while before they imbibe again."

"And maybe the people from Red Rush can celebrate now. Their hold is finally rebuilt." It had been hard, indeed. They had toiled long hours.

"Aye," Aivorn nodded.

"Allright, well I think that was all I had to discuss for now unless any of
you had anything to add. Do you both have enough apprentices and journeymen to assist or do we need to find some temporary help?" Sarban needed to make sure since they could afford it.

"I think we'll cope."

"If you don't mind, I would like to borrow some boys from the minor holds,"
Aivorn replied. "Mostly journeymen."

"Just give me a list so I can let Zandan know who to expect and we can get
them quarters." He nodded, scribbling a note about that.

"I'll deliver it to you," Aivorn promised.

"If that's it then I'll leave you two to get back to your work. Let me know
if anything crops up." Sarban knew their time was valuable and he was glad they had two craftmasters at the Hold to support their needs.

"I can't think of anything else, but if I do, I'll send one of the
apprentices over."

"If that's all, I'll go back to work. We have a busy month ahead of us," Aivorn remarked with a nod both to the Steward and Master healer.
