Takala stood among the other candidates sweating nervously. The dragons had been humming for candle marks, when would they hatch? He shifted from foot to foot. He wanted to reach out to the eggs but did not dare. The great gold hovered near her unhatched young as anxious as those who waited with her. Finally an egg cracked, reveling a brown. Next a green. Then Takala lost track, at least until and tiny dark blue looked up at him. }: T'kala do you know where there is food? I'm really hungry." T'kala grinned from ear to ear, "Yeah sure, this way, the Weyrlingmaster has some food. It's over here Dagreth." He walked slightly ahead of the young blue. When they reached the entrance, he looked for the Weyrlingmaster but the bronzerider was with another pair. A bluerider offered him the cut meat for Dagreth. "Fine looking blue, T'kala." he said with a smile.
In no time Dagreth had finished his first meal and T'kala got him settled in the barracks. Somewhat dazed, the new bluerider walked toward the feast, smiling at the greeting and congratulations. He spotted his parents at a table and crossed to join them.
Kalen was in tears, happy tears but tears never the less. "You impressed! I so proud of you dear, he looks beautiful." "What is his name?" his father asked.
"Dagreth, papa. He's incredible, he's perfect." T'kala was completely besotted with his new friend. "What name did you choose?" Talaeren asked calmly.
"T'kala." his tone conveyed his pride. "Congratuation's son." Talaeren replied.
