Caught in the Act

Description: P'nal catches weyrling S'vin out and about after the weyrling curfew
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 3, day 6 of Turn 6

Great, that was just great. "Go and get us more beer," G'wen and
Dallena had whinged, "you can do it!" S'vin seethed inside, thinking
of how neatly he had fallen for their flattery and where it had gotten
him. Caught red handed, long after he--as a weyrling--should have
long been abed on a training night, the bluerider could do nothing but
try for his most innocent look. If only it had been another
bluerider, a greenrider or even one of the lower caverns women who had
caught him, beers and sweets in hand. But no, just his luck, it had
to be a brownrider. And not even any old brownrider but the
Weyrleader's wingsecond! S'vin silently cursed his luck, his
so-called friends, and the man who stood in front of him, P'nal.

"Weyrling, you'd better have an explanation because as I see it, you've
already realized you're doing something you shouldn't be." He had on his
best stern wingleader face and it was clear he was not happy.

S'vin sighed miserably. He couldn't flirt his way out of this
one..what should he do? He_could_say an adult made him do it...now
who could he blame? Ah.... "Sir, it was N'ki. He told me to come
down here and get him some beer and snacks." He put on his best
innocent face.

"So you willingly disobeyed orders from the Weyrlingmaster for a wingrider?"
That was pure stupidity and it showed on P'nal's face that he thought so.

"I..uh..." S'vin deflated, as there was nothing he could say or do to get
himself out of this.

"First, you're going to put that stuff up. Second, you're going to take a
walk with me, and third, we'll just see about." He frowned and turned the
weyrling around.

S'vin sighed miserably before putting everything back. He thought for
a moment of trying to sneak a beer into his tunic, but then figured he
was in enough trouble, why make it worse? It was a slumped shouldered
bluerider that followed behind P'nal.

"Do you understand, S'vin, why we have rules and expect you to follow them?"
He waited for an answer while they walked.

"Yes" came out in the longest suffering voice possible.

"Why is that then?" P'nal was going to draw this out, making him think twice
about doing it ever again.

At that S'vin did groan. "Because we need to be the best fighting
force we can be..." Didn't this man have some girl to go to?

"No, because we've learned through experience what we tell you. We tell you
so you don't die or do something stupid." Shaking his head, he wondered whose
kid this was.

S'vin just sighed.

"Here we are," he said as they reached his weyr. "I'm not going to wake up your
teachers right now, but be sure they will be told and they can decide
what's best
since I don't know you. I truly hope this doesn't become a trend."

The tall boy nodded and studied his feet. There was nothing worse
than being treated like a five turn old.

"Goodnight, weyrling. Maybe next time I'll meet you under better circumstances."
P'nal headed off in the direction of his own weyr.
