People Get Ready

Writers: Chelle, Len
Date Posted: 2nd September 2011

Characters: Sarban, Ralash
Description: Sarban and his ground crew leader have a meeting.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 3, day 8 of Turn 6

They had repaired the front gates and repainted them. Sarban stood back
to inspect the handiwork and decided he was happy. The Hold was going to
look good when everyone arrived if it killed him. Turning around, he tried to locate the leader of his ground crews.

Ralash saw the halfhazard blond hair of the Steward out of the corner
of his eye and nodded to him, half wondering what the man wanted now.

"Ralash! Good work there. Fine job. Tell me, have you started on the
racetracks?" They would have to be mown, raked, and painted. Sarban knew that Corowal wouldn't allow anyone to race on them if they weren't set up correctly.

"Of course, we did that a month ago, particularly the ground itself."
The man looked at Sarban closely. Everyone knew that the track had to
be tended first, otherwise the horses would be at risk to break down.

"Right, I meant the painting and everything. Are all the posts and such like they're supposed to be for opening day?" Sarban hated it when he gave him those looks.

"Well why didn't you say then?" How was asking about mowing construed
as painting? Was he getting firehead? Ralash looked even closer at the man.

"I asked if you had started on them and my orders were to get them looking
good. Was I unclear?" Sarban was forever becoming annoyed with the holders
when they attempted to play dumb.

"Well being that they were finished more than a sevenday ago, and the
fact that you asked for one thing and then asked for something else,
I'd have to say that you have been quite unclear." There was no need
to use that tone with him, and he let Sarban know.

"Ralash, I never received anything saying they were done. And with everything we need to do, I can't be too sure. This has to be the finest Gather the Hold has ever had. Do you want people thinking Emerald Falls is a place where backward idiots live?" He looked back at him expectantly.

"Well, I sent you a message two sevendays ago, how was I to know you
didn't get the message?" He looked back at the steward.

"Because you know when I do, I do what?" he looked back at him expectantly.
They had gone over and over this, time and again.

"Huh?" What was this guy on? He made no sense at all.

"When I receive a message from you, I always confirm the receipt. If you don't get confirmation, you know I didn't get it. Right?" **Idiots, the lot of them**

"Well, I'm pretty sure I_did_get a confirmation. At least one from
your assistant."

"Who?" If it was that understeward of his that had a habit every so often of coming in drunk...

"Yonber."

"Ah shells, it figures. He is so fired. Today." Walking with a purpose
in his step, Sarban headed back up to the Hold. "Please continue with the items on your list."
