Description: G'wen finally gets to come and visit Meledei as she recovers from
injury
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 3, day 7 of Turn 6
As Neath popped out of /between/ G'wen's mouth fell open, staring at
the scene below them. The ocean stretched as far as the eye could
see, impossibly blue. **It's so beautiful!** he relayed to T'bel via
the dragons. The older rider grinned and have him the thumbs up.
Ever since N'ki had off-handily suggested G'wen look for experience in
another Weyr, T'bel had been plotting how to do just that for the boy.
The most logical place was Dolphin Cove, with Meledei being here and
too injured to come and visit her friend. All T'bel had to do was
give the boy the coordinates to get here for the first time, and then
let nature take its course. And G'waren needn't know a single thing.
If he asked about it, all T'bel had to say was that his boy was
visiting one of his best friends. He didn't need to know what the boy
got up to after he finished his visit with the young gold rider.
Through Fanth, T'bel asked, }:is she still in the infirmary or back in
her own weyr?:{
}:Her own place, I think.:{
}:Okay then, follow me.:{
With a stomach twisting drop, Fanth flew down to the large Weyr, Neath
following behind. They circled once before the two greens settled on
the beach, just outside the half-circle bowl. Despite being
Weyr-bred, G'wen turned beet red at the overt display of flesh on
the beach.
"Sweetie, take off your flight jacket before you pass out," T'bel
suggested, trying hard not to giggle at the look on the boy's face.
The poor thing didn't know where to look--or not look--next. Taking
him by the hand, T'bel added, "come on, this way!" They left their
greens to sun themselves on the hot sands and flirt with the blues
close by.
Being that he had been here plenty of times before, T'bel led the boy
across the bowl to where the line of Queen's weyrs were located.
"Okay, so the plan is you go see your little friend and then go enjoy
yourself after, got it? If you get stuck or scared, I'll either be on
the beach catching up with some old mates of mine, or in the Dinning
Hall--which is over there," and he pointed to the large mouth that led
to the Hall, "okay? You'll be fine! Just enjoy the place. It's
really lovely here." They stopped just in front of the girl's weyr.
"Okay, I'll go in and pay my respects to Elleth, and then you're on
your own, okay lovely? And don't you worry, you're just as pretty as
anything this Weyr has to offer. Get a tan on you and you'll be the
best looking boy around! You'll be beating all the blueriders off of
you." He straightened the boy's shirt (he had told him this morning
to take off the tunic he was wearing and leave it home, Dolphin's Cove
was much too hot for any such silly things like that) and brushed some
imaginary dust off him before knocking at Meledei's weyr.
}:G'wen is coming to see you.:{ Elleth opened one eye to peer down at
the bowl where the green had landed not long before. She said just
before the knock came and Meledei called for whomever it was to enter.
Meledei looked up from her perch on her couch where she reclined, a
knife in one hand, some wood in the other. Her face lit up with a
smile when she saw who her visitor was. "Gwen! Hey! What are you
doing here?"
"Hello!" The boy came in and gave her a kiss on the cheek before
indicating T'bel, who was behind him. "You may remember T'bel..he
sent that last message to you after Swift fell asleep." The flit in
question circled the room before landing on Meledei's couch and
chirping at her, hoping for another cinnamon roll like before. "He
helped me have the coordinates to come see you..and here I am!" He
grinned at that and sat on the low table before her couch so she
didn't have to look up at him.
"Oh yes, I remember the name! Hi!" Meledei lifted a hand then reached
out to scritch the creature. Her free hand slipped into her pocket and
she pulled out not a cinnamon roll, but a bit of meat. "Sorry Swift,
it's all I've got on me." She grinned over at the two riders. "Good!
I'm glad you could come! Have you been here long?"
"No, just got here, it's beautiful!"
Behind G'wen, T'bel nodded to Meledei and spoke up. "I'll give my
greetings to your queen and leave you two kids alone to catch up." He
patted the boy on the back and nodded to Meledei before doing just
that, and leaving the room.
"Nice meeting you!" Meledei called as the rider left the weyrling with
her. "So come sit in a chair, it's gotta be more comfortable than that
table." Meledei motioned to one on just the other side. "Unless you
really find that comfy. Tell me what you've been up to!"
"Okay!" Quickly he hopped up, though before he sat he asked, "do you
want a cup of klah or anything? I can get it whilst I'm up, then we
can talk and you can tell me all what happened to you." He rather
hoped she didn't ask him about in depth about what he had been up to
since, between his none start with Sh'lua and poor Rama's death during
the /between/ lesson, he would have rather not have to dwell on the
happenings of Dragonsfall.
"Nah, but I wouldn't mind some juice. I've got some in the sideboard
over there if you don't mind giving me a glass - and feel free to take
some for yourself. Got some bread and cheese too." Meledei motioned
to a dark wooden sideboard that ran half the length of one wall. "If
you don't mind?"
"Not in the least," he said, giving her a cheeky grin. He poured them
a glass each and sliced the bread and cheese and put it all on the
table he had just vacated, before sitting down in the more
comfortable chair. He gave her a quizzical look. "Well, for someone
who got Scored you look really good, missy. So what happened,
exactly?"
"A green got out of formation." Meledei shrugged a little, her fingers
picking at her skirt. "And wasn't where she needed to be. I guess it
happens."
"Yeah, it does." G'wen thought about his own Blooding coming up and
went quiet for a moment or two. "Sorry about those notes going awry.
Swift's really a green trapped in a bronze's body." He tapped the
side of his head and indicated the flit's airheaded tendencies.
"Eh, could be worse. They could have not gotten here at _all_."
Meledei had heard of that before, though usually with green firelizards
and the occasional blue. "Have you looked around the Weyr yet at all?"
"A bit...the ocean is beautiful. I can't wait to go back out and see it
some more!" His face lit up just thinking of it. "One thing
though...is the beach always so...naked? I didn't know where to look,
or not look. Do you just get used to that...?"
"Naked? They're not _naked_, G'wen, they just don't wear as much
because it's too hot." Meledei giggled. "People don't just run around
naked here all the time."
He flushed at that and gave her a sheepish grin. "I sound like some
Holder girl, don't I?" He inwardly laughed at that. "It's just I'm
not used to seeing people with not many clothes on outside the bathing
pools, which let's face it, are a bit dimly lit, in the least, so it's
a bit hard to see what's going on anyways. It's just, out there, on
the beach...I didn't know where to look!" His face went beet red just
at the remembrance.
"Dimly lit?" Maybe where they were. Not that lights were glaring in
bathing caverns, but dim wasn't what Meledei would call it. Of course,
she had her own now and didn't have to worry so much about such
things. "Just don't think about it and you don't have to worry about
it."
"Until I have to go look for Neath. I doubt she's going to come off
the beach without a fight." He shuddered, thinking about just how was
he going to actually see the ocean without looking like a complete
prude.
"If you really want her to, she will." Dragons could be stubborn, but
they generally put the needs and desires of their riders over their
own. Usually. "Why don't you go roam around, see the sights, rather
than get stuck with me here all day. You can come back and join me for
lunch."
"You want to come too?" His shyness flared up, at the thought of
wandering the Weyr alone.
"Sure, I can come if you like, if you don't mind being a bit slow."
Meledei still couldn't keep pace with those who weren't on crutches,
though she had tried her hardest. "I can show you the Weyr."
"Meledei! I came here to see you, I don't care how slow you walk or
anything like that!" He cocked his head at her. "I'd love for you to
show me the Weyr."
"Great. Then let's go!" Meledei grinned and grabbed her crutches then
rose. "Better to get started so we can actually have a chance at
finishing it!"
