After the wagons came in, it was simple work to get everything ready for the first day. The crafter stalls went up. The trader stalls went up. The dancing square was set out. Everyone was quartered and the food was prepared and set out when it was time. The Hold's staff was running around like crazy, but when dawn rose on the first day of the Gather, there was an air of excitement.
There would be a Lord Holder's Conclave and the Harper Hall would be opening its first wing as well. People were living there now and the Hold would be celebrating that fact. Emerald Falls was also hosting runner races.
Surveying his domain and making sure that he had everything under control, Sarban watched as Zandan mingled within the crowds. He couldn't have any sort of brawls or anything to mar this event. They were celebrating Corowal's birthingday and anniversary. All in all, he wanted this to go down as the party of the turns and he had worked hard to make it so.
The riders were flying in and could be seen on the landing field. He wondered if the Weyrleaders would make their appearance, though they had certainly been invited. Meledei crossed his mind.
Crossing the field, he walked into a few of the tents. Raising his head up to glance at the sky, he saw the sun and was glad. The weather would not mar the day. If it did rain, they had contingency preparations, but he didn't want it to.
The smells of herbs, spices, and fish wafted up to his nose. Pleased with the amount of people here at the Hold for the event, he wondered just what Corowal thought of his surprise. It had taken long months and many people to pull this together, but it was befitting of a major Hold of the South to be able to boast such capabilities. Perhaps this would remind people that they had recovered from the Plague. Maybe not fully, but they were well on their way to making sure the Hold was full again.
And if some of the people decided not to go back to their homes, he wouldn't mind that either. There was always work for the able bodied. Nodding to a riverboat captain as he passed, Sarban's eyes rested on the vintner booth. They would be doing good business later in the day.
