Writers: Chelle, Paula
Date Posted: 17th November 2011

Characters: Corowal, Sarban
Description: Corowal and Sarban talk about the gather and its benefits to the Hold.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 4, day 3 of Turn 6
Notes: Felyna, Morin, Zandan

Everyone had packed up and left. The place had been cleaned up. Sarban had totaled up the money that had gone to the Hold's coffers. The Steward was quite pleased with himself. The harpers were settling in still, but things were going fine so far and Zandan was keeping on top of that.

Corowal took a cup of klah from the drudge. "So that was that, party is over. Quite a success or what?" he sounded satisfied.

"I think so. And we don't have to do anything now till Turn's End." Sarban smiled and looked down at his amounts. "You're really going to love this."

"Don't keep me in suspense," Corowal said, his tone wry but also curious. He wanted to know how the tally went too.

"Well, as you know we had some in marks and others in items." The Hold still accepted barter trade in most cases as it was, which earned some supplies and other needed things. "Marks wise, we made triple what the gather cost us."

Corowal whistled lowly. "Not bad at all. Of course, there was a lot of people." The celebratory mood had probably encouraged people to spend more.

"Aye a lot more than a usual gather. Of course it cost us more as well, but I think we did quite well. It'll help us to open another minor holding on the border if you want to try and get at that lumber there or we could always use it for the rest of the harper hall." He watched Corowal to see what he thought.

Corowal thought about it. "Do we have any likely people to hold a new holding?" he asked. New minor holding meant more tithes and steady increase of income on longer run. Putting the marks to the harper hall
would impress the harpers and give him a reputation of generosity, but wouldn't benefit Emerald Halls Hold in any other way.

"There's Gabron's second son. He wouldn't inherit otherwise and he's got a sound head on his shoulders. I think he'd do fine with the support of some woodcrafters." Sarban considered the creation of a small woodcraft hall at the minor Hold.

"Send the boy over to me, for an interview. If I judge him suitable, we'll open a new holding," Corowal said, making up his mind.

"Allright, I'll let Gabron know." He wrote down a note for himself.

Corowal nodded and pulled out a few records. "While the Lord Holders were here, I got a few new trade agreements done with them. Have them archived and put into action." He handed over the hides.

Sarban took them and perused them quickly, nodding. "Well done. With the help of the riverboat captains, which I'd like to create some sort of...beholden sort of agreement with more formal than our reciprocation
of fostering-I don't think this will be a problem at all. And lucrative..."

"Not a problem at all," Corowal agreed with him.

"Which brings that to mind...are we going to foster any of the Harper Hall's children?" He knew they had in the past.

"That remains to be seen until the Hall is moved here in whole. At this point, only a few masters and journeymen are moving, families and apprentices will arrive later," Corowal replied. "It could be good if we could foster them."

"I think so. It'll breed more of a relationship with the holders and hallfolk. Maybe help prevent an event like last time." Sarban was always thinking of that.

"Yes, the more we get the people to interact, the less likely there will be animosity," Corowal said. He wanted the hall in his hold and keep it there too.

"So how's Felyna doing? I haven't had a chat with her in a bit?" Sarban was beginning to get more comfortable with the Lady Holder.

"She's been busy with her own duties," Corowal replied and grinned a bit. She'd been busy trying to get pregnant too.

"Well I'll let you get back to yours. I've got to see if they got the grounds cleaned up. We'll have plenty of supplies for the cooler weather. Maybe we can do this again next turn at the same time. Maybe not as big,
but it'll help." His mind was working, considering what they could do.

"It could become a nice tradition," Corowal nodded.

"Aye certainly. I mean we always did a gather but..not with all the extras. I think opening it up a bit more would be beneficial." Sarban already started to make the considerations in his head.

"Anything that creates interest towards us is benefit," Corowal said. "We still have several abandoned holds that could be reopened, if only we find the people to hold them."

"About that..we need to find a good man to discover what it is that Morin fellow is doing," Sarban didn't like looking at his numbers. The man was keeping all the settlers that came from the North through his port when normally they would have gone further inland-perhaps to Emerald Falls.

Corowal remembered the nagging feeling of wrongness during the Conclave. "Yes, he's a man we should have an eye on," he agreed. "Why don't you talk with Zandan about it? He should know someone suitable. If not here, then from Coral Bay."

"Sure," Sarban added that to his to-do list. "I'll leave you to your duties and go talk to him now."
