"Hi!" F'neb was trying not to sound to awkward as he spotted G'wen's arrival
at the feeding pens. "How're you today?"

"Hungry! Well, not me so much as..." and G'wen nodded his head to his
tall, lean green. She hadn't eaten since the Flight and she needed
to.

Without much preamble Neath leapt onto the back of a herdbeast and
ripped its throat out before eating messily. G'wen watched her,
feeling satisfied from the good Flight and what had come after.
J'darin had been right, it had been nothing to fear. Or at least
thanks to Neath's thoughtfulness in choosing Sh'lua's blue. He
glanced at F'neb, half wondering what it would have been like, had he
won.

"And," F'neb gestured to Neath, "She's okay now?"

"She's fine. A bit miffed maybe that she didn't get that bronze after
all. But then again..." He knew how close Nirrith was and that had
she wanted to she could have chosen him. He knew she had sensed his
fear at that and had chosen Garieth for him, and him alone.

"She could have done worse."

"She had the chance to choose Nirrith, to be honest. I thought she
was...and then she veered to Galrieth. She choose me over her own
status." G'wen looked fondly at his feeding green. These last few
days he and she had been as close as they had ever, in her young life.

"Maybe next time?" F'neb gestured to Ornigeth even as the blue was taking
down another herdbeast.

"Ask her." G'wen nodded to Neath, who was preening her talons after her
meal.

"Maybe I'll let Ornigeth do the asking."

F'neb's voice sounded strained. G'wen looked closer at him. "You okay?"

"I'd have given you a good time, I wanted Ornigeth to win," confessed the
bluerider. "I really wanted it."

G'wen dropped his eyes at that. A few months ago he would have given
anything to hear F'neb say just that, and would have invited him back
to his weyr. But now he had E'naer. It was still rather a secret
thing but he and the older greenrider were lovers. Shuffling his feet
a bit uncomfortably he said, "well, you have Sylvian. Her green
should be Rising soon, don't you think?"

"She will, but it's not the same." F'neb, if pressed probably couldn't
explain it. All the bluerider knew was that there was something about this
particular greenrider that called to him. And he did love Sylvian, it was
just a feeling of something unresolved between them that bothered him.

"F'neb." G'wen leaned in close to look the other boy in the eye.
"You_could_have had me. But you didn't want me and went with Sylvian
instead. Now do not punish me..or her."

"I'm not punishing either of you, it's me I'm torturing."

The smaller lad sighed and kicked at the dust under their feet. "So
why are you doing this then? What do you want?"

"To get you out of my system, I don't know anymore!"

"Don't know what?"

"Don't know why I did what I did, things could have been so different."

"Yeah they could have." G'wen gave him a wary look. "But this is
where we're at, now."

"And I accept it, but I don't have to like it."

"So what would you have me do? Sit around and pine for you and wait
for any little handout?"

"You've done enough. It's over to me to sort this out now."

"You make it sound like I've done something wrong! What the...?"
Really! Of, all the nerve!

"Maybe I should transfer away from here."

"Or maybe you should just grow up." G'wen raised his eyebrows at him.

"Why don't you just get your green and go, surely she's finished eating by
now." F'neb resorted to rudeness.

"What the feck? One moment you're pouting cos you didn't get to shag
me, the next you're telling me to go screw myself? What gives?" At
that moment Neath looked over at them and then deliberately flew over
a wherry, neatly killing it with one snap of its neck. "Looks like
we're not going anywhere."

"Feck off yourself," F'neb made a rude gesture as he moved well away from
the greenrider.

}:It'll be a cold day on the arse of Faranth before Ornigeth Flies
me:{ Neath added.
