Description: The gold and brown riders catch up
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 16 of Turn 6
Meledei tapped the young rider on his shoulder, then grinned broadly.
"Long time no see, Weyrling." She greeted as she plopped down in a
seat beside him with her food. "How have you been?" She had something
of an idea - she had been a weyrling once after all - but she hadn't
really seen much of her friends lately, so Meledei was trying to corner
them all and catch up.
T'aesh jumped slightly in his seat, until he heard the voice, and saw
Meledei. He began to grin, that genuine jovial grin of his, and
nudged her slightly when she was situated. "I've been good goldrider.
Busy learned to be a big strong rider like you" he said jokingly. "I
know you've been great, especially with Elleth of the Thirty-Two"
T'aesh said.
No matter how many times a queen clutched, it was always an event in
the Weyr. Bets had been placed practically seconds after the Flight,
on how many eggs there would be. T'aesh had lost two marks, thinking
the number of eggs would be twenty-eight. No bets were being place on
color distribution, and T'aesh had decided to stay out of that one.
"And not long til the hatching. Soon the weyrling class will be of
those chosen by Elleth's offspring. It's a really exciting thought."
And a few months later, she would get to be in the air, fighting
alongside them. "And it's not too long before you graduate, either!"
T'aesh grinned. It was true, it would not be long before he and his
fellow weyrlings would graduate into full Riderhood and be assigned to
Wings. The thought was both exhilarating and a little frightening.
"How are Elleth and the eggs by the way?" T'aesh asked, knowing that
if anything was wrong the entire Weyr would know, but still it was
polite to ask.
"Oh, they're fine and dandy. Elleth's got more patience than
anything. She doesn't seem to mind that she hasn't truly left the
sands for...a while. Not for more than a moment, anyway." Mnoranth
had been bringing Elleth meals and any time Elleth needed to take care
of 'business' so to speak, she only did so if he or Meledei was
present. Then she would come right back and settle down and not move
until she had to go again. "What about you and Raisheth? How is
training?"
"Everything is going great. Raisheth is well, gotten pretty big for a
brown, if I do say so myself." T'aesh said, and he did say so, very
often, quite proud of his brown dragon partner.
}: Tell her I said hello :{ Raisheth interject.
T'aesh grinned, knowing that the young brown had probably been
listening in on the conversation. "And he says hello." he informed
Meledei.
"Hello to you too Raisheth." Meledei giggled softly. "So what's the
first thing you're going to do when you graduate?" Meledei asked. She
knew she stayed up late the first day before a rest day. All night
actually and just enjoyed herself thoroughly.
"Mom and dad and me are going to fly out to this cove. Dad says he
found it one day when he and Jondorth were out flying. Nice little
private beach." T'aesh said, thinking about the day. It would be
nice, to just fly out with his brown and green rider parents, all of
them finally riders, T'aesh and his father both bonded to browns.
"That's one of the nice things about being a dragonrider, you find all
sorts of places, and those that are more difficult to get to can often
be a haven." Her father had one, one that he didn't even share with
her. Meledei sometimes wondered where he went, but she had a feeling
when he did, it was because he was particularly missing her mother.
T'aesh nodded, very much looking forward to the day he would fly out
with his parents to their secret little cove. "Raisheth and I can't
wait" he informed the queenrider before asking. "Are you all excited
for your first Hatching?"
"_Very_ excited. Elleth seems to be quite calm about it, but I find
myself giggling from time to time just giddy with the thought."
Meledei had a feeling some people might find that rather odd for her,
but she didn't care. It was a big deal in her life, a special thing.
Her and Elleth's first hatching - that would never happen again. "You
know, you and Raisheth should make a trip up North some time. There's
gathers happening from time to time and while it's different, it can be
a lot of fun."
T'aesh thought about that. He had never really given too much thought
about it before, but he was realizing that one he and Raisheth
graduated, essentially he would be able to travel to any place on
Pern, at least any place that another rider had already been to and
could share the image. He didn't know all the much about the North,
besides what everyone knew, and what everyone thought they knew, and
he couldn't say he was over intrigued. Still it might be worth
checking out at least once.
"I'll look into that" he informed his goldrider friend.
"If you want to go, I'll go with you. I've been to several places on
multiple occasions - mainly for gathers." Meledei offered after
munching on a bite of her steak. "They have a different atmosphere,
different traditions, but it can be a lot of fun."
T'aesh nodded. "Sometime after Elleth's Hatching me and Raisheth will
take you up on that offer" the young brownrider told her. Going up
North with Meledei and Elleth would be much better than going alone.
T'aesh looked around the large dining cavern, and noticed that none of
the other weyrlings he had come in with were around, and gave a quick
start. "Umm...I hate to rush off so quick Meledei, but I think I'm
about to be late for drills!"
"That's all right." Meledei made a small sweeping motion away from
herself and toward T'aesh. "You head on out, make sure you're on
time. Although, if you are late, just blame it on me." She grinned
and waved lightly. "Have fun."
"Will do!" T'aesh yelled back to Meledei as he dashed off to the Weyr
Bowl, where the other weyrlings of his class were already gathered.
