When the dragons began to keen, Teseada looked for Onnyth. Through the gold she could sense the shock and grief circulating around the Weyr. The noise, the shock, over and again it came back to her as the dragons honoured Calyth and Jaela.
"Who?" was E'naer's first question when Eillispeth joined the chorus. The deathkeen was unfortunatelly familiar for him. }: Calyth and her rider :{ the green answered subduedly.
E'naer lowered his head in grief. He had heard of her illness, everybody had. But it was still a terrible tragedy. His next thought were the weyrlings, how were they taking this? Pushing his own emotions aside he rushed into weyrling barracks.
The young weyrlings were mostly huddled next to their dragons, trying to comfort them, and in turn draw comfort from them. It was just so hard to take in. Everyone had known that the Weyrwoman was sick... but this...
Teseada glanced up as E'naer came into the barracks. Unusually for her, tears had formed and were slowly rolling down her cheeks.
"How's everybody doing?" the weyrlingmaster's third asked. His eyes fell on Onnyth and Teseada and he suddenly realized that they were now only gold-pair left in Dragonsfall. It gave him cold-shivers. ** Eilli, come here, the young ones might want to talk with some grown dragon.**
"I, I, I don't know," said Teseada, lifting a hand to her face to brush away the tears. "I'm just trying to help Onnyth."
"Eillispeth is here in a moment. Maybe Onnyth would like to talk with her?" E'naer suggested.
"That might help," said the girl greatfully. "I just keep telling her that I'm still here, and not to worry, but I think she needs to hear it from someone else."
"She's very good at comforting," E'naer said. He had to admit he was bit lost for words. How did one help to weyrlings to cope with the loss of the Weyrwoman?
"Sir, what happens now?" asked the girl. A thought had just shaken her, there was no Weyrwoman's second to step up and take the place, she was still a weyrling. "What can I do to help?" Was there indeed anything she could do, crying just made her feel so, so useless.
"You? I don't know," E'naer had to admit ignorance. "You should talk with Weyrlingmaster about it. I mean, you're a junior weyrling. There's not much you can to but learn and stay safe."
He heard the flutter of mighty wings and Eillispeth landed. She let out a soft, comforting croon, calling the dragonets to her.
"I'll do that Sir," replied Teseada.
E'naer nodded. He was suddenly happy he was just a greenrider. He didn't have to face all those problems the weyr's bronzerider's were now facing.
Like where to get a goldrider and fast.
"Is there anything we can do? For the others I mean." It was the first time that she was really sensing that others would look to her, to see what she did, and how she did it.
"Be an example," E'naer advised.
"How?" she asked.
"Show them that life goes on. You still have drills and classes." Teseada nodded, getting to her feet. "Yes sir."
E'naer nodded approvingly. She was going to make a fine weyrwoman one day, he had no doupts about it.
