Location: Smith Hall (NPC)
Date: month 9, day 15 of Turn 3
The apprentice bit his upper lip as he concentrated on the drawing he was making. This pendant was one of his more intricate and daring.
Thanks to Ulte, he was getting better at working with the wire. He felt ready to try something a bit more complicated. Now if only he could get the image he had in his mind down!
Fieayz was lost again. She was sure that this was the way back to her room. but the Smith Hall was laid out completely differently to her hall. These looked like classrooms, and something suggested to her that Daynar would be less than happy if he found her wandering here.
Nyblek looked up as the girl walked past the room. He knew her! She was the nice Vintner Hall girl. What was she doing _there_? "Fieayz?"
he called after her.
"Nyblek?" she said. "Can you help me?"
"Of course," he said giving her a shy smile. "But what are you doing here? The Hallmaster doesn't like women hanging around the classrooms."
"I know," she sighed. "My Papa wouldn't like it either. But I took a wrong turning and ended up here trying to find my way back to the family quarters."
"Oh, well if you go back the hall to the left, take a right after Master Hashel's office and a left at the chemistry..." The apprentice could see by the look on her face that she was lost already. "All right, I'll...
I'll take you back. But we'd better hurry before we're seen."
"Thank you Nyblek," she gave him a smile. "I didn't intend to end up here, I was trying to find one of the stores, and someone directed me over here. Then I realised that I was lost, and the more I tried to get back, the more lost I became."
"That's all right. I'll just pack up my things and take you." He started packing away pencils and books in his bag.
"I'm not disturbing anything important, am I?" she asked trying to peep at his sketching.
"Oh, no," he mumbled, suddenly self-conscious about his drawings, "it's just a project I'm working on."
"Sounds fun," said Fieayz politely, aware that Daynar would have strong opinions over her having more than a polite passing interest in his craft. "I was wanting to get another blanket, for Arva."
"She needs a blanket? Flits get cold?"
Fieayz laughed, the idea of a shivering flit suddenly struck her as funny. But before he could think she was mocking him, she decided to explain. "She's going to clutch soon, and I need to find somewhere comfortable for her. I've got a nice corner in my room, but I want to make sure she likes it."
"She's going to clutch soon?" he asked, very interested in that idea.
"By the end of the month," she replied. "I don't know how many eggs there will be," she said anticipating his next question.
"That will be exciting. I did a drawing of your gold, by the way,"
Nybleck smiled, pulling out his precious scetch book. It had been a birthday present from his sister and he put all his favorite drawings in it.
"Can I see?" she asked.
"Sure!" He thumbed through the page until he found the drawing he wanted. His smile faultered a little. Perhaps it wasn't quite as good as he thought it was. It wasn't a _perfect_ representation after all.
But he had already agreed. He blushed slightly as he turned the scetch book so she could see it. "It was just a quick drawing. It could use a little more work."
"It's beautiful," she said after a moment.
"You're very nice to say so," Nyblek replied, though it was obvious by his half smile he believed she was just saying it to be kind.
"No, it is good." Fieayz treated him to a smile. "How about you get me back to the right part of the Hall now?" she suggested. An idea was forming in her head, maybe, just maybe she could chose who got the eggs, and maybe Nyblek might like one.
"Right, sorry." He closed the scetch book carefully and placed it back in his bag. "After you. Take a right."
"Down this way," she said pointing.
"Yes. That's the way." He slung his bag's strap over his shoulder.
"So when did your gold rise?"
"The end of last month," said Fieayz as the surroundings began to look a little more familiar to her.
"When the eggs hatch do all the firelizards hum? Like they say dragons do?"
"Very gently," she said. "That's how it starts," she glanced at him. "If I can get you one, would you like it?"
"Do you mean it? You would give me one?" he asked excitedly. "Of course, I'll give you something to..."
"If you could do me another drawing of Arva?" she suggested.
"Another drawing? Only that? But that's not enough for a _flit_
egg..." That couldn't be the only thing she wanted!
"A really good drawing," she said. "Something I can have put on the wall of my room for people to see." "Well, I'll try my best," Nyblek agreed. "But... do you think I can see her again? To get a better picture of her in my mind?"
"Of course, I'm sure we can organise a time."
As long as the Hallmaster doesn't find out. He wouldn't want the same thing to happen to him that happened to Ulte... "Well, here you are."
"Thanks for this Nyblek."
He looked down at the floor to hide his slight blush. "Anytime."
