To Catch a Peek

Characters: T'aesh, Meledei
Description: T'aesh gets a peek at the eggs and talk with Meledei.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 6 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: R'enh; Mentor Approved

It wasn't long til the hatching. Meledei was spending even more time
at the sands as the eggs matured. How long til they would hear the
humming? Of course, they had an approximate time that eggs took to
hatch, but they were a lot like women having babies - eggs didn't
always follow a perfectly set schedule. Still, she could get work
done down there and still be near her lifemate and it was nice ot get
out and not be confined to a room for a while.

Elleth had been halfway dozing. She'd been dutiful to her eggs,
turning them over when needed, sniffing at them, occasionally nudging
them as if to encourage the dragonet inside to keep growing. She'd
taken a break and settled down but hadn't fully gone to sleep. So when
a presence appeared at the entrance, her eyelids lifted and a whirling
green eye trained toward the figure.

}:We have a visitor.:{

"We do?" Meledei sat up from where she had been lounging on the
bottom of the stands and craned her neck to the entrance.

T'aesh stopped at the entrance to the Hatching Sands, noticing Elleth
first. He bowed low to her, projecting his good intentions, and also
hoping that Raisheth would vouch for him to the queen, but not knowing
for far a brown's word would go with a queen who was guarding her
clutch.

In all honesty T'aesh wanted to look at the eggs, partially because
they were Elleth's and also because this would be the first clutch in
a long time that T'aesh wouldn't be Standing for. This was the first
batch of eggs on the Sands since Angdelouth's clutch, when Raisheth
Impressed T'aesh. There was something almost surreal about the fact
that this clutch of eggs would be the first Hatching that T'aesh would
attend as a rider. He just wanted to look at them, just briefly.

Meledei stood and waved, a gesture that really wasn't necessary as she
was the only other person in the hatching cavern and she wasn't exactly
hard to spot considering. "Hey T'aesh, come on down." She encouraged
and, of course, Elleth did the same with Raisheth.

}:Tell yours he is welcome.:{ That didn't mean Elleth wouldn't keep a
sharp eye on the visitor, but she wasn't going to deny someone who was
obviously a friend and had no intentions of hurting her eggs. This was
someone who would help protect them if anything - and she knew that.

}: Elleth says that you are welcome onto the Sands :{ Raisheth
informed his rider at the same time that T'aesh saw Meledei.

** Tell her thank you for me ** T'aesh told the young brown as he
walked across the hot Sands towards his queenrider friend.

"Hello Meledei, and my greetings to you Elleth" he said as he strolled
up to Meledei, his eyes gleaming, as usual, with mirth.

"Hey T'aesh." Meledei patted the spot on the bleacher next to her.
"So what brings you to visit a poor, sand bound dragon and her rider?"

T'aesh grinned sheepishly at Meledei. "Really, Raisheth and I just
came to get a quick look at the eggs." he said, referring to that
uncanny ability of dragons to look at things through their rider's
eyes. "You know, first clutch on the sands since Raisheth found me,
kinda sentimental."

"I was too." Meledei had a feeling each and every dragonrider was
remembering their own Impression. How could they not? It was the most
joyous time of their lives, the single most important moment. Nothing
could ever overshadow it. "This clutch...it's special for me too."
Elleth's first. First of many.

T'aesh smiled at his friend. "Yes, more special for you than me of
course" he admitted. "Got your dress and everything ready for the
Hatching?" he asked. T'aesh was sure Meledei would be as beautiful as
her lithe queen dragon at their first Hatching.

"Yep, it's all ready. And I have jewelry to match." Meledei didn't
wear much jewelry. She didn't really _have_ much jewelry. She
honestly hadn't much of a reason to before, but the hatching was
special. "Do you have something?"

"A little something, nothing extremely grand, but I think I'll do
alright" he said grinning. In truth, T'aesh had a commissioned a
brand new Gather outfit for the Hatching. He had thought about
wearing the same thing he wore to that Gather after the Hatching were
he Impressed, but he felt Meledei, and he himself deserved better.

"I can't wait to see it. I expect a dance." Meledei reached out to
poke the brownrider in the arm with a playful gesture. "And I'm going
to hold you to it."

T'aesh grinned and gave Meledei a flourishing bow. "Of course My
Lady. I shall do nothing but count the minutes until then" he said
playfully backing away from here, still bowed. "I still be the most
lucky of brownriders in the Weyr my lady. All shall even T'aesh when
they see me dancing with such a lovely vision. Oh how I fear for my
safety when R'enh sees me dancing with you" Raisheth's rider continued
to call out playfully as he retreated to the entrance.

"I don't think you have anything to worry about. R'enh...well, he's
nice and all but he's not like that with me." Meledei shrugged. She
wished she had someone to be like that with but...she just wasn't sure
she was ready for that sort of relationship, even if she wanted one.
She didn't want one just to have one. She wanted to be with someone
who wanted to be with her - and she wanted more than just a fly by
night romp. "So dance away!"

"Will do!" T'aesh called out as he exited the Hatching Sands, very
much looking forward to the Hatching and the festivities after.
