Cyradis

Cyradis

The summons had sounded serious enough. After putting his paperwork
in order--well, some sort of semi order--and letting the staff know
where he was going to be, Sh'del walked smartly to the newly occupied
weyr that housed the lastest queen.

}:She's a lovely one,:{ Loranth pipped into his thoughts as he came
closer to her.

**Do you know of a gold that isn't lovely? Or a green for that
matter?** he shot back, humour in his thoughts. But his brown was
right, Panitath was lovely. He particularly liked the unusual
colouring along her wings.

"Panitath, please tell your's that her Weyrlingmaster is here to
see her for her meeting," he asked the queen, stopping before her with
a respectful bow.

The golden neck bent gracefully as her head turned to survey the brown
and his rider. }:Loranth's has arrived.:{

**Send him in.** came the reply. Cyradis stood to receive the
brownrider. She hadn't had time to set up an office as yet and still
had unpacked crates for which she needed to find storage.

So at this point she was working at her eating table.

As Loranth settled into visit with the gold, Sh'del made his way in,
blinking a bit at the contrast of weyr after being in the tropical
sun. He made out the slight figure of the new weyrwoman and nodded
his head. "Ma-am?"

"Come in, come in." She swept her hand toward the table in an
invitation and seated herself back down.

"Ah, cheers." He smiled and did as she bid.

"I am Cyradis," she said by way of introduction. She didn't think it
was necessary to state her position as that kind of information
traveled rather quickly in the weyr.

"Ah, I thought so," he answered with a cheeky wink. "I'm Sh'del, at
your service."

She grinned and shook her head. Seating herself at the table she
pulled out the document about which she had the most questions. "I
found this in the archive and wanted to go over it with you if I may."
She tilted it so they could both take a look.

Some of the writing had been damaged and she couldn't make out some of
the names on the chart. "This looks to me like one of Weyrwoman
Traelyn's later clutches but I can't make out these names.. here, and
here." She pointed.

"Ahh..." He leaned forward and squinted at the names. "That one is
F'pel, he died in his Blooding. The other is Rellen, she's been
transferred to Ista Weyr up North. Something about having family up
that way. Any others?"

"Ok thanks," she pulled the hide back to her and fixed the names so
they were legible again and then entered the information into her new
document in the format she preferred and had learned in the north.
Then she marked the one transferred and the other deceased.

She looked back up at the brownrider. "So tell me about yourself."

"Well, I used to fly in N'vanik's wing, and before that I was over at
Dream's End, acting as wingsecond for one of the boys there. And
before that I was at Vista Point, along with N'vanik and Rhosyn." He
smiled a bit nervously as Trouble, his tiny green flit, entered the
room and squealed when she saw Cyradis' brown.

"Isn't N'vanik's Wingsecond from Vista Point as well?" She thought
she'd read that in the most recent transfers hide. She wondered why
the brownrider wouldn't also mention the other bronzerider.

"He is."

She nodded. "I thought I remembered that right," she said. "It's
taking me a little to get all the names straight. That is one of the
reasons I wanted to meet all the various leaders in the Weyr."

At that point Shadow decided to glide down from wherever he'd been
perched and arrange himself on top of the hide they'd just been
discussing. She looked at Sh'del's little green. "She's a pretty
little thing."

"She's been well named," he warned as Trouble squealed at the
compliment and jumped on the parchment, acting more like an over grown
kitten than a flit. She managed to knock poor Shadow off of it as she
leapt up to pounce back on it and rolled it up in her front talons.

Cyradis laughed at the little green's antics. "I do believe I need
that dear," she said plucking it from the flits grasp and plucking a
treat from the tray she kept at her side for Shadow. "Trade?"

The tiny green whimpered at that, not thinking much of the trade.
"Come here, you." Sh'del scooped his flit up and cuddled her in his
lap, showing his rarely seen tender side.

Cyradis smiled at the tenderness for the silly green. Her little
Shadow chirruped at her and she handed him the tasty treat the green
had rejected. He wolfed it down and moved to her shoulder to twine his
tail around her neck and rub his head against the side of her head.

"How old is she?"

"Just over a turn. Don't think she's getting any bigger though." She
was as tiny a green flit as his Loranth was a large brown.

"She's quite pretty." Shadow crooned agreement with her from her
shoulder. Cyradis reached up to caress the little brown. "Has she had
any training yet? Will she fetch things or take messages?"

She was joking, right? He glanced down at Trouble, who was too
airheaded to carry a message, not to mention to tiny to be comfortable
doing so, unless it was_just_a message. "All her 'training' went in
one ear and right out the other, I'm afraid. She's called Trouble for
a reason."

Cyradis laughed. "I think they all pick their own names in a way."

"They do." He smiled at her. "You been stuck in this office all day?"

"Is it that obvious," she grinned back at him.

"Well then, how about a drink down in the Dinning Hall?" Shards knew
he could use one after the hot and tiring day he had.

"Sounds good!"
