J'darin

J'darin

Wingsecond, Wingleader, Weyrlingmaster, Weyrlingmaster Second, Wingthirds.. the list went on and on. The Weyrleader sighed heavily.
Not only had they lost many blues and greens, but they had lost bronzeriders too. Dolphin Cove was woefully short of leadership at the moment, and the bronzeriders they did have were either young or injured, although he'd been keeping his eye on one recovering bronzerider, M'kel.

Br'nick, though, was newly transferred back to Dolphin Cove, and J'darin had heard good things about him, and seen good things of late as well.
He wanted a steady hand for his 'Second, for certain. It was a chance he had to take.

Scribing a note for him, he sent it off with a drudge. Oak didn't know him yet, but he would make sure to call his fire lizard in to meet Br'nick when he arrived, so they could pass messages.

That done, he settled back to wait. He had said "at your convenience"
so that could be soon, or in a few candlemarks. It didn't matter to J'darin, since there was always hidework to be done. Sadly.

Br'nick knocked on the door of the Weyrleader's office. He had gotten into the habit of eating at least one meal with his children as they all adjusted to life without their mother. He had been on his way back from such a meal when the drudge delivered the note from J'darin. Not having anything to do until the afternoon, the bronzerider headed off to see what the summons was about.

J'darin looked up at the knock, and called Oak in, following it with an "Enter!" Surprised to see Br'nick already, the Weyrleader rose to his feet and extended his hand. "Welcome Br'nick. Thank you for coming; I know you've been quite busy lately. Have a seat please?"

"You're welcome. What can I do for you?" he asked as he settled into a chair. He hadn't been gone from the Weyr all that long, but it felt like he had come back to a whole new Weyr with the accident and all the chaos it caused.

"Well, I know you haven't been back long, and you weren't gone that long, but as you have no doubt noticed, we have several leadership vacancies. We lost many good riders that day, and not just in the smaller colors." J'darin sighed softly, the mark of care and concern on his face. "And to get right to the point, I need a Wingsecond. How do you feel about that?" He paused. "It would mean transferring to my Wing and out of Cyclone.. What do you think?"

"I'm well....honored to even be considered. It'll help me move on with life and if I can help the wing then so much better. I accept the job wholeheartedly." he said after taking a moment to take the information in. He had never expected to be asked to be a wingsecond. He knew that it was the right thing to do. Cyritahn would have wanted him to do what was best for him and not mourn her passing for the rest of his life.

"Hasaarth has great trust in both of you, and I trust him. And I know all too well the loss of a loved one, Br'nick, although Kalina did not die as your weyrmate did. Our duty to Pern and the Weyr is all that has saved me." **Although his new Weyrwoman might help.. someday.. **

"I'm very grateful. I did not necessarily want to put a brownrider there if I could help it. We're woefully short of bronzes in leadership. I know we can work fine together, and if I'm being a Wherry's arse, I expect you to tell me, yes?"

"Of course. That's part of a wingsecond's job isn't it?" he said with a soft chuckle.

J'darin chuckled in return, nodding agreement. "I hope you don't find it too tasking, Br'nick. Accept my thanks, and let us schedule some time in the morning to go over drills and the wingriders in Hurricane, though you must know some of them already."

"I flew with Hurricane for several turns before they switched the wings around the last time. I know most of them by sight if not personally, though."

"Very good, Br'nick. You may start immediately. I will announce it today, aye?" The Weyrleader smiled. He thought he could work with Br'nick very well, so it was a good choice all around. "I look forward to flying with you, bronzerider."

"Thank You again, I am honored." he replied excited at the prospect of mounds of paperwork. Anything was better than giving into the temptation to drown his sorrows in wine that was for sure and it was something he had dreamed of doing one day.
