Tavia smiled as she opened the door. "Ranari!"
She knew her friend was coming for a visit with her son. She'd agreed
to be the babe's foster mother and they'd spent several visits getting
together. She'd even helped Tavia with some of the adjustments in her
weyr to make sure things were laid out well for infant care. "He's
still asleep but should wake soon for a feeding." Almost as if on cue
the sounds of her son's waking call sounded from the inside of her
sleeping chamber.
"There he goes," she grinned and turned to retrieve Kaiavin.
Her friend was right behind her, eager to see the gorgeous little boy.
"How are you feeling, m'dear?" she asked as she grabbed a clean nappy
on her way to the little one's bed.
Tavia stood back and let Kaiavin's foster mother have his changing.
Meanwhile she reached up to pull the laces of her tunic to get ready
for feeding him. "Better every day. It really was an easy delivery
compared to some I've seen. I'll have to go see Vandor for a checkup
next sevenday. Then I'll be able to at least _start_ trying to get
back in shape."
"Take your time, girl. It's not like you get to rest up you know!"
As she talked she deftly changed the little one and wrapped him in a
blanket, ready for his mother. "The wings have been doing well, there
haven't been any bad Scorings lately. So it's not that you're
missed."
"Oh I'm sure," she said. "But Sawauth does. She's tired of 'being
lazy' as she put it."
The greenrider took her son and walked into the small living area to
feed him. "Do you want to take him this afternoon? My pretty girl
needs a bath and oiling." A croon came from the outer weyr and a chirp
from the top of Sawauth's head where Glory sat like a little gold hat.
"Oh sure! I've got the little girls today, so they'd love having a
babe to fuss over." She smiled up at the site of the tiny gold and
the much larger green. "And you're not lazy, Sawauth...you're a right
beauty, you are."
"Great," she said. The thought of bathing Sawauth was making her
happy. The days were beautiful just now and she wanted to get outside.
She looked down into the tiny eyes gazing up at her as he fed. "He's
amazing. Sometimes I see me, sometimes U'kaiah, but all the time it's
him."
"I see lots of you, you know." Ranari smiled at her friend. "Now go!
Get that poor green looking beautiful! Me and the girls have this
little man for a bit."
Tavia chuckled at her friend. "Thank you so much," she said. "Sawauth
thanks you too." She didn't wait at that point but picked up her pail
and headed out into the outer weyr to trot down the steps and off
toward the lake. She got a little winded and told herself she was
going to start training to get herself back in shape.
