"Feeling okay?" Venasa asked U'kaiah, after the wing was dismissed from drills for the day. Ever since the Weyrwoman's death the Wingleader seemed to have changed, and not for the better. Venasa was genuinely worried about the man who she had once secretly feared, but now only pitied. rumour had it that the bronzerider and Jalea had been involved, but she had learned that it was best to disregard these whisperings.

The bronzerider glanced at her over his shoulder briefly before pulling at the buckle of his riding straps. "I'm just fine, Venasa. Why do you ask?"

"If you don't mind my saying Sir, you just seem to be acting, well a little differently than usual," Venasa responded timidly, she had never had a non professional conversation with the man before.

"I guess I'm just a little tired is all," he muttered as he pulled the strap through the buckle. "Things have been a bit busy around here."

"I guess they have, especially since Jaela passed away," Venasa added.
The rumours must have been wrong then, "just don't get _too_tired U'kaiah, we don't want to loose our Wingleader again."

"You won't," he assured her. U'kaiah couldn't afford to lose his wing now. He just would go crazy if he ended up in the infirmary again with all that time to think. "How are you doing?"

"I'v been better," Venasa said. She never knew the Weyrwoman personally, but the mood around the Weyr was so downhearted that it was impossible not to fel sad at the loss, "I wish there was something I could do to make everyone feel better though."

"I suppose all we can do is just do our job. The Weyr can't stop, no matter who we lose."

"Its to feel as though that might not be enough though," Venasa said softly. She hadn't really had an opportunity to discuss the Weyr's loss with anyone, as she tened to keep to herelf mostly.

"What more can we do, Venassa?" the wingleader snapped back. He immediately felt contrite. The greenrider didn't deserve that. "I'm sorry, Venasa. I guess I'm just a little tired."

Venasa was taken aback by the wingleader's sudden mood swing, "I guess nothing Sir."

"I'm sorry, Venasa. It was very rude of me." U'kaiah mentally berated himself for losing his cool. "Of course there is more that can be done.
You can be strong for your fellow wingriders and help them through this." Something that their Wingleader was apparently having trouble doing, if the last few minutes were any indication.

"I'll be sure to do that Sir," Venasa said as she turned to head back into the Weyr, "and I _do_ hope that you are feeling better soon."

"Thank you, Venasa," the wingrider muttered as he turned back to his task.

As Venasa headed back into the Weyr she decided that she would take the bronzerider's advice, and try to be strong, no matter what.

U'kaiah glanced in her direction contritely. He shouldn't have snapped like that. Sighing, he began buckling the riding straps again. It was time he talked to a friend and tried to get his head back on straight. "All right, boy. Let's go to Dolphin Cove."
