"Sarban!" Corowal called out for his steward when he left the infirmary.
Of course the steward had noted the arrival of the gold dragon and had
begun to investigate on the why when he heard Corowal yelling. Like it
or not-the Lord Holder yelling took precedence over goldriders. Coming
down the hallway, he spotted his cousin coming from the infirmary and
hoped nothing was wrong. "What?"
"We have an injured greenrider in our infirmary. Apparently he collapsed
while on transport duty. And then we have a goldrider checking him and
what looked like a frantic lover...another greenrider," Corowal informed
him with a glance towards the infirmary. The situation was a bit tricky.
There were people in Emerald Falls Hold with very strong emotions against
male greenriders. "I want them to get special treatment while they are
staying
here, the best the Hold has to offer and I want them to be kept out of
sight,
if you know what I mean." Corowal trusted Sarban's ability to deal with the
dragonriders discreetly. "They are not Dolphin Cove's riders and I want them
to go home telling only good things about us."
"If they aren't from Dolphin Cove..." He probably didn't know who they
were then. Great. And he didn't know the other Weyrleaders at all. Frowning,
he pulled over to the side of the hallway. "Is the goldrider staying? I
mean..
I can't hide a sharding gold dragon you know?"
"I don't think so... I didn't think to ask. I presume she returns home
after she's
satisfied that her rider is stable and cared for. Her name is Teseada, by
the way,"
Corowal replied.
He filed that away, thanking Faranth for small mercies. "Allright then just
two greenriders to deal with. Not so bad. I'll talk to Miranek and then go
from there. And the headwoman can arrange meals to be taken to them
so they don't have to go to the great hall." His mind was already working.
"Yes, that's fine." Corowal said and patted Sarban's arm. "I trust you to
handle
it."
"Aye sure," That usually meant do it and don't screw it up and Sarban
understood. He was going to be out of his element since Emerald Falls
actually didn't see many riders except those going to and fro carrying
supplies or the dragons on Search that quickly took their quarry and left.
The previous Lord Holder hadn't tolerated the creatures much.
"This is an unusual situation," Corowal was almost echoing Sarban's
thoughts.
Dragonriders didn't generally _stay_ in Emerald Falls hold. They visited,
Gathers,
Searches, or sweepriding. Since becoming Lord Holder, Corowal had worked
hard to improve relationships with the Weyrs. This could be an important
step
in that process, and he knew Sarban knew that too.
"Do we have...the things they need?" He knew they had oil for the Hold's few
firelizards but was it enough? He didn't know anything beyond that really,
what
dragons needed. He supposed they could feed themselves at least.
"How should I know? My knowledge of dragons is limited to harper ballads and
what I've seen in Weyr-visits."
"Well you've been on them more than I have
Lord-that-gets-picked-up-for-hatchings."
He made a particular look, though it was clear he didn't care. He wasn't a
person who wanted to go flitting about adragonback. Give him solid ground
or the water any day. "Maybe I'll send a message to Dolphin Cove and see
what
they say about it. We could borrow."
"Yes, we can," Corowal nodded, giving him permission to do as he saw best.
"Allright, I'll go see Miranek now. I'll let you know if there are any
issues."
Sometimes Hold-Weyr relations could be prickly, especially when they weren't
even dealing with their own Weyr.
