Birigundi

Birigundi

Venasa glanced around the over crowd Dinning Cavarn searching for an empty seat. The room seemed to be unusually full of diners that evening, and the only avilable seat seemed to be next to that shardig flirt Birigundi. She hated having to deal with the candidate's usual antics, but it seemed as though she would have no choice but to sit next to him on this occasion. Then again he did seem to be holding an enthusiastic conversation with the girl next to him. Maybe she would be able to slip in unnoticed.

"Ah, Venasa," Birigundi smiled as the greenrider settled into her seat.
"Just where have you been hiding? I haven't seen you in forever!"

"Away from you," Venasa said, refusing to look directly at the candidate. He always made her feel uncomfortable with his openess. She knew that it was the way of the Weyr, but that didn't mean that she had to like it.

"Ah. It was an intentional hiding, I take it?" he asked, his smile faultering a bit.

"Not really," Venasa changed her answer. Anything that would stop the Birigundi from talking to her.

"Well, that's good to hear," he finally replied, not completely convinced. Birigundi turned back to his lady friend, making small talk and chatting away. In the back of his mond, though, he was searching for anything that he had done that might have upset the greenrider or biased her towards him.

As Venasa started eating her meal she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed in her attitude towards Birigundi. He had nevere been anythin but nice after all, and he had even helped her to get a letter to her siblings back at Dark Ravine. Finally with a sigh she said, "look Birigundi, its not you. Well at least its not just you. So please don't take it personally."

"Not _just_ me?" he asked, turning back towards, the greenrider. "So it is me and something else, then?"

"Its just that I get sick of everyone being interested in me all of the time, for you know," Venasa snapped "it begins to get old after a while."

Birigundi shook his head. "That's very sad."

"Why's it sad," Venasa snapped, annoyed. Why did men like Birigundi bother her so much?

"Because if you allow no one to take any interest in you, how do you meet anyone? Not everyone who has an interest in you wants to take you to bed, you know." Though, admitedly, the thought wasn't all that unpleasant.

"Like who?" Venasa questioned angrily. She couldn't think of a time a man had approached her who wasn't interested in sharing her bed.

"Greenriders?" Birigundi couldn't figure out why any other man would approach her with _only_ intent on being friends. She did have a lovely smile.

"Exactly my point," Venasa said, turning back to her food. Even though she didn't want to admit iteven the male greenriders scared her, but only because of what her mother had told her of their unusual habits.

Birigundi shrugged, knowing sometimes there was nothing you could do to change someone's mind, and it sounded like Venasa's had been made up.
"Well, if you never want to be friends with anyone, you have found a great way to go about it."

"Its not the friends that I am worried about, its the,"Venasa paused, then whispered "_sex". Then with that she stood up and stormed out of the Dinning Cavern.

He shook his head as he watched her bolt for the door. "That girl needs friends more than any I have ever known."
