Birigundi

Birigundi

Birigundi watched as Kamira checked her chart and then her little green's outstretched wing. Well, not so little anymore, he realized.
He thought about turning and leaving. Their last meeting had ended badly. But they were friends. He couldn't just leave it like that.

He approached the pair slowly. "Dragonhealing practice, huh? Are all her bones in the right place?"

"Seem to be..." Kamira's voice was a bit tentative. She wasn't sure why Birigundi was here, but she wasn't going to throw up any walls rashly.
"I could use a little help though, and Tayanth never objects to a little extra attention..."

"Shards, she's longer than I am now," he smiled as he reached out a hand to scratch a green eyeridge. "When did that happen?"

Kamira laughed. "I don't know. I stopped keeping track after she outgrew me and that was... a while go." They weren't talking about the real issue, but at least they were talking.

"Well, it wouldn't have taken long to outgrow you," he said with a teasing smile.

"Hey!" She glared at him from the other side of her green. "You're lucky Tayanth is between us!"

Birigundi's eyebrows raised in amusement. "Really? What would you do if she _weren't_ between us?"

The girl raised her eyebrows in a snooty way. "Something _very_ unlady like."

"You can't do that," Birigundi said with fained surprise. "What would your Weyrlingmaster say?"

"Well that's why I'm _not_ going to do it. Besides, we've fought enough lately." She figured they should bring things up sooner than later.

"Ah, yes. About that..." Birigundi had kind of been hoping that they could avoid that topic all together. But, since she brought it up, he figured he could talk about it.

Kamira looked at him quizically and shrugged her shoulders. She had started the conversation, he'd have to finish it.

He looked back at her expectantly. Surely she didn't think _he_ was to blame for that! After all, she was the one who had acted with total disregards of his feelings.

Kamira realized that Birigundi wasn't going to apologize for getting all worked up like that and was incredulous. "So...?"

"Yes?"

"You don't have _anything_ to say about the fight we had?"

Birigundi turned to look at her with a look of almost shock. "What do you want _me_ to say exactly?"

"Maybe an apology for getting all upset at me for no reason." There was a flair of attitude in the way she said it and the way she stood with her hands on her hips.

"No reason? So I was wrong in being upset that my friend responded to hearing the news that I was to be a father with a resounding 'good luck'?" he asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

"I _told_ you. I would have said 'good luck'to anyone!" Now both she and Tayanth were getting upset.

"Watch it," Birigundi said condescendingly, "you're upsetting your dragon."

"Yes, but at least _I_ have a lifemate, now don't I?" Kamira knew it was a low blow, using the fact that he hadn't impressed against him, but at the time she didn't really care.

Birigundi nodded slowly, thoughtfully. "I knew you could be unsupportive, even temperamental. But I never before thought that you could be down-right _mean_. At least your lifemate found something worthy in you," the spurned candidate said just loud enough for her to hear as he walked back up the beach.

The weyrling was not at all pleased with herself, but if he was going to accuse her of being unsupportive then shards, that's what she would be.
Kamira immediately went back to studying as she had a sneaking suspicion that if she didn't she would end up crying instead.
