Following the Flight

Writers: Ames, Devin
Date Posted: 9th April 2013

Characters: U'fouinn, D'ren
Description: The bronzerider wins the greenrider's Flight and there is some awkwardness between them.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 17 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: D'arvn

The Flight had been amazing, one of Amizth's best. She'd enjoyed the
chase, the thrill. One with his green, U'fouinn had enjoyed each
moment as well. Now with the effects of the Flight wearing off, he
turned to see who was sharing his bed.

It wasn't D'arvn. A thought which saddened him slight, but he wasn't
overly surprised. Amizth had always been flirtatious and enjoyed many
different dragons over her time. She knew U'fouinn had a special place
for Falzeth's rider, but she also liked sampling her other choices as
well.

Looking at the man beside him, U'fouin wondered how this encounter
would go. They hadn't been friends long, but they _were_ friends and
wingmates as well.

The deep satisfaction flowing through him and Menanth's smug pride let
D'ren know he'd won a Flight, but things were still too hazy for him
to remember who they'd chased. Opening his eyes, he saw U'fouinn and
jolted. **Calm down, calm down!** he told himself. **Don't be rude.**
"Um, uh ... thank you, for the Flight." His cheeks went red. D'ren
wasn't sure he'd ever get used to waking up next to a man after a
Flight.

He saw the flushed face and was mildly amused. Being a bronzerider he
knew this had to be difficult for D'ren.

"You are welcome," U'fouinn replied and then added, "and I need to
thank you as it was most enjoyable for me as well. I know this is
probably uncomfortable for you, so if you'd like to leave that's
okay." U'fouinn was fine with that now. He'd learned that being polite
and gracious to the other men was better than taking it personal.
_Nothing_ about Flights was personal.

D'ren thought about B'vin, how uncomfortable it had been for both of
them. "I didn't ... um, hurt you, did I?" He scooted a little toward
the side of the bed, putting distance between them. The leftover
dragonlust was stirring, and under its influence, any warm body would
do. Especially one that was young, and fit ... D'ren swallowed.

U'fouinn shifted a bit as though to test things some. "Not really,
no." He was a bit sore as he usually was after one of Amizth's
flights, but it wasn't bad. "I've been hurt badly in the past, but
everything is fine, D'ren. Thank you for the concern." U'fouinn was
doing his best to be hospitable, but it was always hard when he knew
the other man was uncomfortable.

"Oh, good. I had a friend who said it was always painful for him."
D'ren sat up and had a flash of embarrassment. He was naked. Of course
he was naked, this was a flight. **You used the bathing caverns. It's
not like you haven't been naked in front of other men before.** He
swept his gaze around looking for his clothes.

"Sometimes it can be. I've learned to adjust as all Flights are
different than what happens on a regular basis," U'fouinn replied. His
eyes took a moment to wander over D'ren's body. Though he had a mate
of his own, he still couldn't resist admiring when another man was
well-built.

"They're over there." U'fouin gestured with a grin on his face when he
saw D'ren searching the room. He knew the drill. He, however, wasn't
quite ready to get up yet. He needed a bit more time, then he would go
work off the rest of the dragonlust with his weyrmate. His own body,
however, still stirred at closeness of the man beside him.

D'ren slid off the bed and fought an urge to cover himself. No matter
what he did, he was going to be on display when he reached down for
his clothes. Quickly, he bent and scooped up his undershorts. He felt
a little better when he had them on. "It's nothing personal," he said,
thinking of B'vin again. "I'm just not attracted to men. Obviously. I
mean, I'm a bronzerider." He laughed nervously. "Is anyone else this
awkward?"

U'fouinn raised a brow at that. "Oh yes," he replied, unable to hide
his smile. "But at least you have been courteous about it. Some run
off with nary a word looking like a hound with their tail between
their legs." U'fouinn rose and reached for his own clothes, which were
rather strewn about the floor. He turned to allow D'ren the privacy of
dressing, knowing the other rider was uncomfortable. He slipped his
own shorts on before speaking again, "I do hope this doesn't change
the friendship we've developed. _That's_ when things are their worst,
when you thought someone your friend and they hardly speak to you
again after." It had happened, not as much in recent Turns, but it
_did_ happen and he knew it would continue to happen.

"Oh, no. I had a good friend ... he was the first male rider I was
with." D'ren pulled on his trousers, talking to U'fouinn without
looking at him. "It was uncomfortable at first, but we both understood
that these things happen." Although it made him wonder if their
friendship had something to do with it. Riders did have some influence
on their dragons' choices.

U'fouinn gave a firm nod of his head. "Good. That's all I needed to
hear. I _do_ thank you for a good Flight." U'fouinn stood, his
trousers on. He pulled his tunic over his head and began lacing the
front together. U'fouinn was pleased that if Amizth couldn't choose
Falzeth, then at least she'd chosen well for them both this time.

"Me, too." It was easier to face him with clothes on. Things might
still be strange tomorrow, maybe for a few days after, but D'ren would
get past it.

U'fouinn nodded one last time as he finished dressing. "I'll see you
at drills tomorrow then."
