Teseada

Teseada

Onnyth was growing nicely. U'kaiah watched the little gold playing in the water, and a smile crossed his lips. She didn't even seem to realize that she was suddenly so vitally important to the Weyr - to _him_. The child of Treadorth and Calyth... the one that would carry Jaela's lifemate into the future. In a way, she was a piece of the Weyrwoman too...

"Time to come out now," called Teseada to Onnyth. "If you want that oiling..."

The gold seemed to glare at her rider, but there was a hint of humour in her eyes if you knew where to look. After a moment, she came out, stopping delicately by her rider.

"Good day, Teseada," U'kaiah said as he approached the pair. "And good day to you, Onnyth. My, isn't she growing into a beauty."

"She is indeed," replied Teseada with pride. Some days it still surprised her that she had even managed to impress, but then when she looked at Onnyth... "She's all I ever wanted."

"I know the feeling is mutual," he smiled. "It won't be long before she takes the sky, now will it."

"No, and she cannot wait." Teseada's voice had a hint of eagerness too, there was something about the thought of taking to the air on her dragon that thrilled her, and scared her at the same time. "I think, no I know I'm looking forward to it."

"There is nothing quite like flying with your lifemate. It's almost as if _you_ grew wings." His lips curved into a soft smile at the memory.

"That's what the Weyrlingmaster said," replied Teseada with a broad smile.

"And soon you will start training to be a Weyrwoman yourself someday.
Or at least a Second." He searched the young woman's face. "Are you ready for that, you think?"

"No, not yet," asnswered Teseada honestly. "I don't know that anyone would be. But Onnyth chose me, so that means she has confidence in me?
Right?"

"Yes," the wingleader nodded. "There is something special about you, Teseada. Onnyth knew it, and now we all know and believe it."

"Papa said he always knew," said Teseada. "Maybe I should have trusted him more." U'kaiah smiled warmly. "Perhaps so. But the important thing is now _you_ believe that you have it in you to be a great goldrider."

Teseada laughed, "Now, I'll just settle for being a good rider."

"You will be much more than that one day, Teseada. You can count on it." He gently scratched the gold's eyeridge. "Because Onnyth is much more than just a dragon."

"She's mine now, just like I'm hers."

"That's right, Teseada," U'kaiah said with a soft smile. "She's yours."
