"I thought that I would bring you some lunch," Mayla said as a way of announcing herself to the Weyrwoman, "Plus I wanted to get a look at Nyith's clutch."

"Oh, Mayla, you're a life-saver," Traelyn grinned, rising to make room on the bench for the Headwoman. "I'd just been contemplating whether I should get up to snag something from the dining common..."

"Oh you are more than welcome," Mayla responded, "I am sure that it is difficult to pull yourself away. How is Nyith doing?"

"She's doing well." As if the golden queen knew they were talking about her, she raised her head, her whirling eyes focusing on the two women.

}:I am proud.:{ Nyith angled her head so she could look down at a few of the eggs nearby, her long tail curling tighter around a couple. }:They will all be strong.:{ "Nyith says she's very proud," Traelyn smiled, her tone loving.

"That's good," Mayla said, "I am sure that I would be proud too if I were going to have that many babies. How many eggs are there again?"

"Thirty-six." She was nearly glowing as much as Nyith.

"Wow," Mayla said appreciatively, "that will certainly help to replenish our wings in the long run."

"It will. Each clutch will help rebuild the Wings. Though J'darin has said that some dragonriders who have been laid up in the Infirmary are recovering enough to start flying again."

"That is good news," Mayla said happily, "between them and the new riders things should be running smoothly then."

"As smoothly as they can, under the circumstances."

"Well if you or the Weyrleader need anything you know that you can always come to me," Mayla assured the Weyrwoman, placing a maternal hand on the goldrider's shoulder, "Have you had a chance to meet with the candidates yet?"

"You mean officially?" Traelyn shook her head.

"Or unofficially," Mayla added, "I haven't had as much time as I normally do to ensure that they are adjusting to Werylife"

"We're all stretched pretty thin, Mayla. But I'm sure they're doing fine... They're older Candidates here who will help the newer ones too."

"Well things are finally settling down now," Mayla said gratefully, "I intend to arrange for a meeting with as many of the candidates as possible, in the next day or two. Hopefully they have all been adjusting fine on their own, and possibly with the help of the new Weyrlingmaster, Y'sani I believe?"

"That's him," Traelyn nodded.

"I must find the time to greet him," Mayla said, making a mental note to do just that.

She smiled, taking a bite out of the roll of freshly-baked bread. "Thanks again, Mayla, for bringing me lunch. I really appreciate it."

"You're very welcome," Mayla replied sincerley, "let me know if you ever need anything else."
