"Oh, there's Paetri." Jykri waved. "Let's sit with her."
Daret was starving after the hard work and balancing the bowl of stew,
basket of bread and the mug of klah was a bit difficult. He only
quickly glanced in Paetri's direction before heading her way.
Paetri wasn't really paying attention as she picked at her food,
shuffling it around her plate as she remained deep in thought. Jykri's
wave caught her attention in the corner of her eye and she turned her
head to catch sight of him and Daret. Her lips parted in a smile and
she lifted a hand to wave back, beckoning them both closer.
"Hi," Jykri said brightly before sitting across from her. "I hope you
don't mind if we join you?"
"Shells no, she don't mind ..." Grinning at them both as he went ahead
and sat down, he couldn't help but wonder how they'd react to each
other after their time together. Oh, he knew they didn't do anything
more than talk and kiss but it was still enough to make some couples
act ... weird.
Laughing softly, but looking down at her plate, Paetri shook her head.
"Of course I don't mind." She shoved the food around her plate. "What
have you two been up to?"
"Just the usual," Jykri said. "How's your day?"
Daret noted the food pushing and reached over to grab a tuber, grinned
at Paetri and popped it into his mouth. If she wasn't going to eat,
shards if he'd let the food go to waste!
With a light smile, Paetri reached to smack Daret's hand and
playfully shook a finger at him. "Now how am I supposed to gain weight
if you steal my food?" Reaching over, she snatched a roll from the
bowl he had brought and took a bite, staring at him. Turning back to
Jykri, she swallowed and smiled. "I've been busy today. I met this
strangest boy and he was playing a rather...interesting song." Her
brow knit. "It was a bit...not what I'm used to."
"Oh? How was it different?" Jykri asked before taking a bite of his food.
Contenting himself with just sticking out his tongue, he asked
immediately after Jykri, "What's his name?"
"If you're not careful, Jykri might bite that off if you stick it out
again." Paetri stated primly, though a flush at her boldness did
appear on her cheeks.
Clearing her throat, she took another bite of bread and frowned. "His
name is Aluka, I think. And the song...well..it was rather..." She
paused. "I told him it was lewd and he laughed at me."
Jykri laughed. "I wouldn't be surprised if it was lewd. I've heard
some shocking things here." He sipped his juice. "Aluka ... oh, he's
the one that cut his hand when we were washing dishes."
Daret nearly choked on the tuber at Paetri's words and started
coughing to clear his throat. It was so unlike her and he really
enjoyed the blush on her cheeks. But mention of the boy had Daret's
coughing ease. "He's certainly an odd one. Told me I can call him
'Ya don' gotta chance with me'. Now, we all know that I certainly do
have a chance since there's no way he'll ever Impress green. How
could I ever turn down that kind of a dare?"
"The song was about some thief coming into a lady's bedchambers."
Paetri continued. "It wasn't explicit, but still..." She shook her
head. "I guess he thought I was funny and then, well, we argued a
bit." She turned to look at Daret and shook her head, a small smile
lifting her lips. "Daret, do you ever think of anything besides
_that_?"
"He thinks about food sometimes, too," Jykri teased.
"Only after _that_," Daret winked at Jykri and waved his fork over
Paetri's food. "Yea, especially when one isn't eating. You've been
moving your food around ... why?"
"I don't know what I'm going to do with you two." She laughed softly
and then snatched his fork and held it away on her opposite side while
she took a larger bite of her bread, eyeballing both young men.
Chewing purposefully, she swallowed. "I was thinking. You know I don't
eat alot."
"What were you thinking about?" Jykri dipped his bread in his stew and
took a bite.
As the fork was snatched away, Daret's eyebrows rose in surprise.
Instead of lunging for it, however, he shrugged and picked a tuber out
of his stew and popped it into his mouth. It wouldn't be dignified to
jump over the table just to get a fork, even if she deserved a good
tickle for her stunt.
Sighing, she handed Daret back his fork. "Stop going for my food." She
smiled at him and then looked over at Jykri. "I was thinking....do you
think I'm stuffy?"
Jykri tilted his head. "Why would you think that?"
"Fine," Daret said as he accepted his fork. Her question surprised
him once again but this time he frowned. "Is that what Aluka told
you? He's certainly full of himself. No, you're not the least bit
stuffy."
"Something he said." Paetri shrugged and pulled her braid over her
shoulder to stroke it before smiling at the both of them. "It's not
that important. So...what are your plans for the afternoon?"
Jykri couldn't help glancing at Daret with a knowing smile. They spent
a lot of their free time together, and a good portion of that was
spent doing things that would shock non-Weyr folk. "Do you want to do
something together?" he asked Paetri. He wanted to make sure she felt
included and he wanted the three of them to be friends. He and Daret
could postpone some of their activities.
Not as subtle, Daret blew Jykri a kiss then took another bite as his
best friend answered. He then glanced at Paetri with as much of an
innocent look as he could make ... which was incredibly ridiculous.
"All three of us?" Paetri looked between the pair and tilted her head slightly.
"Why not?" Jykri shrugged.
"Sure, I suppose that could be fun. What do you two have in mind?"
"We could go swimming. Or, watch the dragons feed, that's always fun!
Oh, I know ... we could go watch the riders in their drills," Daret
said with a wink since they both knew how much he liked watching
sweaty men at their work.
Jykri rolled his eyes at Daret. "Swimming, that sounds like fun. Does
that sound good Paetri?"
Paetri stared at Daret before snorting. "I think swimming will be just
fine, Jykri."
"Great!" Jykri grinned. It would be great for the three of them to
have fun together.
"Flit poopers ..." he mumbled but grinned as he grabbed his tray and
stood. "Well, come on, let's go!"
