Cardella

"Come on, K'ale," Cardella grabbed his hand and dragged him along with
her. She was excited to be at this particular Gather. There were
vendors of all kinds and she was eager to spend some of her marks to
pick up some new things for Turn's End celebrations. She knew K'ale
could use a few new things as well.

"Oh! Look at that!" She declared, dragging him over to a jewelry
booth. Cardella fingered a necklace with a stone so green it matched
Awenth's colors. The necklace itself was intricate and had decorations
all through the metalwork. She wasn't yet sold on what exactly she
would purchase, but that necklace was definitely something she liked.

"How much is this piece?" She asked the seller. When he gave the
price, she frowned. She liked it, but for _that_ much. She wasn't so
sure. She knew it had taken countless candlemarks of time, but she
didn't want to spend so many of her marks on one simple item, when in
fact she wanted to buy a few small gifts for some of her dearest
friends, K'ale, G'wen, even J'darin.

K'ale just laughed and followed her. He hoped that with the hatching
coming up shortly she'd help him pick out a new tunic or at least the
fabric to have one made up. So for now he just followed her. Once
she'd done her own shopping, he was fairly sure she'd be able to
concentrate on helping him.

"Thats nice," he said as she touched the necklace.

"It is, but I have plans to buy for others not myself today, so,"
Cardella sighed and letting her fingers drop back, she left the
beautiful necklace for someone else to purchase.

"Now, let's get you outfitted. You've got a big day coming up and you
need to look the part!"

He let her drag him along laughing as they ran from booth to booth.
"Hey slow down," he called as they passed a weaver's stall.

"Hey! Hey guys!" The tiny figure that could only be G'wen ran up to them.

Already he was ducking down, sheepish of the more than a few nasty
glares from holders near-by. One particually husky man gave him a
shove as he trotted by, causing him to all but fall into K'ale's arms.
In that moment he desperately wished he hadn't been held back by the
small weyrling agument that had meant he didn't get to set off with
his friends.

"You made it!" Cardella called out as G'wen joined them, stopping at
both K'ale's words and at seeing her other friend arrive. "Now the
gang's all together again!" She grinned. It made her happy to be with
them. Her eyes, however, darted to K'ale. Her feelings for him had
changed since her Flight. She didn't want to ruin the friendship they
had, but she couldn't help the thoughts that often seemed to flit
across her mind of late. Trying to distract herself, she added, "Isn't
this just lovely? There are so many things to choose from!"

"Hey there G'wen," he smiled at his friend as he set him back on his
feet. He patted him on the shoulder and sent a very direct look at the
man who'd tried to knock the little guy over. "Cardella's shopping,"
he told G'wen by way of explanation. "Find anything you like yet?" He
smiled at Cardella.

"Weren't you going to get Tes something as well?" G'wen scratched his
head. That day at the beach had been so fuzzy but he did recall K'ale

saying something of the sort.

"Of course, I did," she replied, holding a new tunic up herself. She
reached into her pouch and removed some marks and paid for the
slightly decorated tunic. It was nicer than the plain ones she often
wore. It would be perfect when she wanted to make a good impression.

"Oh, yes, you should get her a gift," Cardella replied to G'wen's
comment, looking at K'ale and doing her best to hide her jealous
feelings at the mention of Teseada. She knew the goldrider had her own
relationships and what not, but Cardella was finding it harder to
separate her _own_ feelings about K'ale from her day to day life. It
wouldn't do, however, to ruin their friendship with those thoughts.

"Oh, Car, look at this!" G'wen held up a beautiful bolt of fabric.
"That would show up against your hair and eyes, don't you think,
K'ale?" The cloth, if made into a dress or tunic, really would show
off Cardella to her best affect, he thought.

"Oh yes," smiled K'ale. The shade of the fabric matched her eyes
exactly and all thought of Teseada left him.

She grinned at her friends, running her fingers over the fabric. "I
love it." Turning back to the stall, she told the man, "I'll take it."
Then reaching into her pouch she began to count out the marks she
would need.

"What time did you guys set out?" G'wen asked, edging closer to K'ale
when he saw the same group of men were still glaring at him.

"Just after breakfast," said K'ale. He looked in the direction of the
group who were glaring at G'wen. "Perhaps you gentlemen would like to
face Thread in the skies on the back of a flaming dragon and without
the protection of your stone houses like this man does every sevenday?
He protects you and everyone else here!" Several heads in the crowd
turned at his words and then followed his gaze. An angry murmur
followed and their unfortunate antagonists turned away in shame.

"There," he smiled at G'wen. "I don't think they'll be bothering you
any more today."

He turned back to Cardella, "I'll take care of that 'della." He handed
the man several marks to cover her purchase.

Her eyes had hardened as she'd turned towards the men K'ale had
addressed. She wanted to grumble at them herself, but thankfully
K'ale's words took care of things. As she turned back to pay for the
fabric, K'ale surprised her by beating her to it.

"Thank you," she said, a smile lighting up her face, and without
thinking she leaned up on tiptoes and kissed his cheek. Then she
blushed. She hadn't kissed him, well, since, he'd won Awenth's Flight.
Oh, how she'd wanted to, but she'd held back.

"Oh, let's keep looking, we need to find other things," she quickly
stated, turning her face away from both boys to pretend to gather her
purchases and hope they hadn't noticed her reaction.

G'wen did but wisely kept her secret safe. Instead he tucked his hand
into the crock of her arm. "Can we shop later, I'm hungry." Well aware
of the whine in his voice, he nodded to the bubbly pie stall.

K'ale just laughed at G'wen oblivious to the undercurrent around him
as he too turned toward the pies.
