What's Wrong With Her (Part 1 of 2)

Writers: AL, Ames

Characters: Wirnan, Sofeya
Description: Wirnan goes to the bar to get drunk
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 13, day 29 of Turn 6

Wirnan

Wirnan

Veritably stomping his feet, Wirnan entered the tavern and made a
beeline straight for the bar. It wasn't as busy as he'd expected, but then
again, there was a_huge_ party taking place at the Hold, why would many
people be at the tavern. No, most of them would find their way to the
tavern as the main party ended. He'd beat the crowd.

Sliding onto a bar seat he slapped a mark down on the table and
ordered, "Give me your strongest beer on tap and keep em coming." He
wasn't in the mood to wait. Right now all he wanted to do was get
drunk and pretend this debacle of a night had never happened. **Stupid me
for thinking I was actually_getting_ somewhere. She's as cold as fish,

but at least a fish is good for food.** His thoughts were dark and
unfriendly towards the woman who was his wife in nothing but name.

He downed the first flagon of beer in a matter of moments and tapping the
counter the barkeep provided another. Wirnan took his time with this one,
but still finished it quickly. By the time he'd finished his third, he was
starting to feel the early effects of a buzz and his racing thoughts began
to slow. His pace for drinking slowed as well as he settled into a
happier, drunken place.

Sofeya had taken the place of one of the other women she wasn't
completely at odds with. Normally she didn't

work at the Tavern, she just drudged around the Hold, but she had to admit
it was a nice change. Being a drudge had its advantages, but she didn't
mind a different pace every now and then. It was also
interesting to see who came in the Tavern and where.

When Wirnan arrived, her eyebrows went up. She didn't think the man was a
particularly heavy drinker, but after he finished his second drink and was
moving on to his third, she hovered by him at the bar. At the moment,
there was only one other patron who had decided not to go to the
celebration and he was already passed out. "Long night?"

He glanced up and recognized the woman. Sofeya. They had talked off and on
in the past, though he hadn't seen much of her of late.

"Aye, a_very_ long night. I wish it was over already," he replied. "Give

me your strongest drink if you would."

"Of course." Sofeya flashed him a smile and a bit of something else as
she leaned over slightly just before she turned to head to the bar. She
returned a moment later when some amber liquid in a glass and set it down
in front of him. "Anything else I can do for you?"

Wirnan thanked her for the glass. "Not anything you can help me with
I'm afraid," he replied grumpily, taking a rather long drink from the
glass.

"You sure about that?" Sofeya took it upon herself to slide into a
seat next to the man. "Why don't you try me?"

He snorted. "Trust me. No one can change things. I've given it a Turn
and nothing is better. Nothing." He spat the last word out, lifting
the glass and downing the contents in one gulp. He was fired up and
angry. He wished Zathris would have granted him the freedom he'd
desired in the beginning, but no, instead he'd forced Wirnan's hand.
He was angry at the Lord Holder for that as well.

"Sure there's nothin' I can do?" Sofeya leaned forward, offering a
bit more of a view of certain assets. "I'd be glad to try."

He eyed her assets with a look that said he _was_ interested. It had
been far too long of _not_ getting the full satisfaction that he
needed. Kaya withheld that from him at all turns. He was frustrated by
that and by so many other things. His body needed a release. He wanted
to allow himself, but he'd kept himself checked for so long he was
afraid to let himself go. He didn't know if he'd like the man he
became if he gave into the desires of his flesh. **I wanted it to
work. I did. I _tried_. She gave me nothing.** He frowned.

"Wife issues," was what he finally told her, though his eyes flicked
to her form once more.

"Oh I've heard a lot of problems with those." Sofeya's voice lowered
into a purr. "And I've managed to help comfort a man or two who had
them." She shifted and gave him another angle to admire. "I'd be
glad to go somewhere and 'talk' if you need to. My shift's over."

"I'd like someone to talk to, but it's hard to talk about personal
affairs." He looked down at his mug. "Perhaps a few more of _these_
will allow me to feel more at ease about things." He was still tense.
The drink had helped, but it had not worked its way through him enough
yet to allow the knot that was inside him to loosen.

"How about I get you another drink." And though Sofeya's shift was
over (or rather, the original tavern maiden's that she was covering
for), she could easily et drinks for the man. She sauntered back to
the bar and returned a moment later with drinks, one for Wirnan and
one for herself. "Here you go."

"Thanks," Wirnan replied, giving her a smile. Just then a large group
entered the tavern, loud and raucous. Wirnan frowned and groaned when
they pushed their way up to the bar where he and Sofeya were sitting.
One of them was nearly pushing over him to get to the current server.

"This is absurd," Wirnan muttered, "let's go finish our drinks somewhere else."

"I think that sounds like a great idea." Sofeya popped up to her feet
and held out her hand. "I know just the place.
