It was early evening when Cendarnth arrived above the grief stricken Weyr. Br'nick had gotten a hastily written note from some of his children informing him of their mother's death from a threadfall accident. He found out the severity from a few friends before heading to find his older children.
His mind was in a state of shock at the loss of his weyrmate. They may not have been together the last few months, but it wasn't her fault at all. He had just realized the stupidity of his leaving only a few days before and would soon be berating himself for not acting quicker. Another part of his mind said that these children could quite possibly be grieving for the loss of both parents if he had done so.
Nicosia had young Ictavion in her arms when Br'ncik came through the doorway of the bedroom the younger girls shared. The young toddler was crying and wanting to know where their mama was. She always came to say goodnight and she hadn't come yet.
Br'nick gently took his son into his arms and comforted him the best he knew how. He was never very good at getting them to stop crying. Cyritahn had been the one that they turned to if their fostermother wasn't around. He was the one they went to if they wanted a ride or to do something that the women wouldn't let them do. He had finally learned to ask more questions and not just give them whatever they asked for after Cyritahn had yelled at him one time too many.
Ayribraysi,Cyribray and Tahyne were soon huddled around his feet. "Hello, my girls." he said softly. The girks were old enough to understand what had happened and he was sure that they would want him as close to them as possible in the next few sevendays. He knew that he could count on Nicosia to help out as best she could in between her infirmary shifts. The young girl hoped to Impress one day, but also wanted to have a craft incase she didn't find a lifemate.
Nicosia sat on the bed next to their father leaning on him like she hadn't in turns. Even though Cyritahn wasn't her birthmother, the seventeen turn old felt like the greenrider had been everything that she needed when her own mother wasn't around. She had spent a lot of time at the healer hall as a younger child, but soon left to live at the Weyr with her father and the rest of her family. "Thank you for coming, da." she whispered softly as she rested her head on the shoulder that Ictavion wasn't occupying.
"I would never not come if you children needed me. I'm transfering back to be where I've always belonged and never should have left. You'll forgive your father for his lack of snese, won't you?" he replied with a tired smile.
"Of course I will." she said feeling safe now that her father was here. He always made her feel safer when he was around. Not that she wasn't old enough to take care of her self, but more like a sense of security if she got in over her head she knew he would be there.
Br'nick slid onto the floor as carefully as he could without waking his sleeping son. Nicosia settled back onto his shoulder and his other daughers moved in around him. The day had been exhausting for them all and they soon gave in to the exhaustion not caring that he might be sore in the morning.
