Description: D'ale comes to move Yanley
Location: Amber Hills Hold, Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 4 of Turn 7
Tonuth and Imalkyth burst out of /between/ over Amber Hills and
spiraled down into the courtyard in front of the main Hold. D'ale
grinned at the number of bags and trunks already piled out on the
steps.
"How many people are we bringing back," K'ale asked as he walked up to
his father.
"Just one, or rather one and a half," D'ale grinned.
Yanley were watching the sky and waived when she spotted the dragons.
Her firelizards where doing aerial acrobatics around her, caught in
her mood.
Zelanka helped to carry out the last one of her trunks. The headwoman
was both happy for Yanley and sad to see her leave.
D'ale trotted up the steps to where the ladies stood and bowed over
Yanley's hand. She was beautiful in her traveling clothes and he
wanted nothing more than to sweep her into his arms in his happiness.
But he turned and presented the younger dragonrider. "Lady Yanley,
this is my son K'ale,"
"Ma'am," K'ale knuckled his forehead and nodded at the headwoman.
"Obviously. You take after your father. I'm pleased to meet you
finally, K'ale. Your father has been telling me of you," Yanley
replied warmly, after exchanging glances from father to son.
"Very nice to finally meet you," he nodded with a smile.. "I'll just
get started loading," he told D'ale.
"There's quite a bit of it," Yanley said with apogeletic tone.
"Don't worry," he said. "That's why I brought K'ale." He approached
and took her hand. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm getting bigger every day," she sighed and smiled.
"And more beautiful, if that's possible." But his eyes said it was
.
"You're such a flatterer," Yanley smiled. "Careful with those, there's
porcelain in," she warned K'ale.
Zelanka was helping the young rider in loading.
"Yes ma'am," K'ale answered and tried to be very careful with the
package he was carrying. He made sure to lash it where it wouldn't be
bumped by anything else and padded it with a blanket from one of the
chests. "Oh thank you," he said to the older woman who was helping
him. "I'm K'ale," he smiled.
"We need to get you aboard," D'ale said softly. It was going to be
harder than her last ride as she was almost to far along to go
between. A fact that had been worrying him for some time. But thanks
to the Lord Holder and his wife, they'd finally convinced her. Tonuth
lowered himself down and offered a leg to the Lady.
"You think it's safe, for the baby, I mean," Yanley asked, suddenly nervous.
"I'm Zelanka, The Headwoman around here," Zelanka replied to the young
brownrider.
"Very nice to meet you ma'am," K'ale said diffidently. "I think that's
everything," he said when he finished with the last case.
D'ale kissed Yanley on her temple. "Yes," he said simply. Then he
thought he should explain a little more fully. "I'm a Wingsecond and
have female riders under my command," he said softly. "I have to know
when it is and isn't safe for them to fly /between./" Though
truthfully they were getting very close to the time when it would no
longer be safe. "But if you're nervous, we can fly straight to the
Weyr. It will take about fourteen candlemarks that way so we wouldn't
be able to do it all in one day. Or," he offered another comfort. "I
can have a healer waiting to examine you as soon as you arrive to put
your mind at rest."
"Fourteen candlemarks!" Yanley squalled. She could barely hold her
bladder for two. "I take the trip /between/, thank you very much," she
said dryly and turned to give Zelanka a hug. "I'll miss you,"
"And we will miss you, Lady Yanley," Zelanka replied. She gave D'ale a
stern look. "You better treat her well."
"Yes ma'am," D'ale smirked. "I intend to keep her as happy as
possible and bring both of them back for visits when it's safe." He
smiled at Zelanka, she rather reminded him of his own foster mother
who had passed too many turns ago. There was a deep love for Yanley
behind the stern warning. On impulsed he leaned in to kiss her cheek.
"Now let's get you mounted," he said and escorted her to where
Torerath crouched with an offered leg.
Yanley needed D'ale's help to get up. The belly got to the way and it
also altered her stance, making her less unsure with her balance. Soon
enough she was safely strapped to Torerath's back. She gave the brown
hide a pat. "Be patient with me, I'm not as nimble as last time."
If Torerath could he would have reassured the Lady but as it was he
satisfied himself with telling his rider.
"He says he's brown," D'ale chuckled. "He's about as patient as a
dragon can be," he explained and then added "And he'll try to be very
gentle taking off," D'ale told her as he climbed up into his place in
front of her. Then he looked across at K'ale who signaled his
readiness.
Then the big brown trumpeted before taking a running start and lifting
off instead of launching straight up into the air like usual.
Imalkyth launched on a tangential course to meet Torerath just before
the two browns winked /between/.
Yanley wrapped her hands around her belly and counted three and then
they were out of /between/. She felt the baby kick and smiled.
D''ale felt her move. "Everything alright?" He craned his neck to look
over his shoulder as they spiraled down toward his weyr ledge.
K'ale meanwhile headed directly for the bowl where drudges awaited him
ready to help him unpack and carry all the luggage up to his fathers
weyr
"The baby either hated or loved the /between/ and is now moving
around," Yanley replied. Taking his hand she guided it to a right
place. "Feel it?" Her questions turned to wince with particularly
strong kick from the baby.
"Yes," he grinned as he felt the strong kick. "He's a fighter." Tonuth
blackwinged to touchdown as gently as possible. Then D'ale slid off
and reached up to help Yanley down. He'd asked the kitchen staff to
have a fresh pot of Klah waiting with some other refreshments for when
they arrived and they'd done as he asked. He turned to escort her in
with an arm around her waist. The tunnel entrance to the ledge with
closed with heavy leather curtains to keep the weather out during the
cold months but they were swept aside and he brought her into a nice
large set of rooms well lit with both electricity and glows.
"Over there is the children's sleeping room," he gestured. "There is
the the bathing pool and necessary." Then he brought her with him to
another set of more decorative curtains. "Here is our room."
"It's all very lovely," Yanley said with approval. Yes, she could live
happily here. There was enough room for her to feel comfortable.
Her approval was a relief. He knew it wasn't as luxurious as she was
probably used to but it was large for a weyr. "I'm glad you like it,"
he smiled. "I'm even more glad you're here."
"Now that I'm, I'm so glad I came," Yanley reached to kiss him.
