Lady Yanley

Yanley

"Chupsin, I need to talk with you," Yanley said, a serious expression on
her face. Her decision was now done, and she knew it wouldn't please Chupsin.

The healer looked up from the tube he'd been swirling. "Aye? Are you having
some nausea or heartburn?" If it was anything he could help with, he would.
Dropping the tube into its holder, he made a few quick notes on his hide.

"The later, but that's not what brings me here. I'm leaving Amber Hills
Hold," Yanley said, not finding any diplomatic way of saying it.

"And when are you returning then?" came the automatic question. Chupsin
didn't ask yet about where she was going.

"I won't. I move to Dragonsfall Weyr to live with the baby's father,"
Yanley said. Her voice had a sad note. She wasn't stupid. As much as she loved the idea of
having a real family with D'ale, she also felt she was being exiled. Zathris was being
gracious about her situation and rather devious too..luring her to concede
to D'ale's pleas to weyrmate him. Not that she blamed him for that. He did
what he saw as the best for everyone.

Taking that news hard, Chupsin couldn't help the show of anger, though he
did understand why. Still, he wondered if that had been the decision of
Yanley herself or someone else. "Do you want to live at the Weyr? And does
that man want you there?" Not that it was any of his business. Still
Chupsin had worked with Yanley and even had grown up behind her. He felt
some sort of protectiveness of the woman and would do what he could.

"Yes and yes. He's been begging me to come since we found out I'm pregnant," she replied.
Stroking gently her belly, she sat down and straightened her legs. Her
ankles were swollen. "I would still like you to deliver this baby," she said almost shyly. "You
think you could come to the Weyr when the time comes? I haven't met any of
the Weyr's healers." She rather had someone she trusted than a stranger.

Chupsin considered that for a moment. Regardless of what she said, if he
knew Yanley it was going to be scary leaving her family, her way of life,
and everything she knew behind. A Weyr was very different. And what if this
man was like most weyrmen and had another woman he was 'in love with' too
that he hadn't told her about? "I know the Weyrhealer there a bit. He's a
good man, but if you want me to come, I'll talk to him about it."

"Please, I would love you to come. I trust you," Yanley pleaded.

"Allright, I'll see if that's okay with Taren. In the meantime, how are you
getting to the Weyr?" Chupsin looked back at her curiously. "And when?"

"With dragon and in a few days from now," Yanley said. "There isn't much
time to waste or I'll be too far along to safely go /between/," she
shuddered at the thought of it.

"That's true if you went by dragon yes." They didn't have the boats like
Emerald Falls and it wasn't as easy to go overland as it was in River
Bluff's territory, but it could be done.

"Well, I'm not taking the long, uncomfortable journey on tithe train
either," Yanley said.

"Aye I understand. Very well. I'm going to pack some things you can take
with you for minor problems." He ran through a list in his mind. "You can
come pick them up tomorrow evening."

"Thank you, I will. I'm sorry you have to find yourself a new nurse,"
Yanley said. She was going to miss working at the infirmary. Perhaps she
could continue it at the Weyr, but not until the baby was born.

"I'm sorry that you will be leaving home again." But it had been her
decision that had made that happen and now she had to deal with the
consequences. He had guessed something like this would happen-that Zathris
would send her away. He hadn't thought it would be to the Weyr, though, of
all places.
