G'nir

It was easy to call the starstones to mind, and the way the light fell
against the cliff face. The shape of the Weyrlake on the plateau, the
colour of the summer grasses that rippled up the slopes of the nearby
mountains. Harki and Cerillith came from /between/ over Dragonsfall
Weyr and Harki's heart lurched unexpectedly at the view. She was a
Dragonsfall rider, and the feeling she got at returning confirmed her
suspicion that she should have never left.

Cerillith called a greeting to the Watch pair, and the blue dragon on
duty bugled back, his voice echoing through the evening air. Her green
dragon angled her wings and they began to circle down towards the
ledges. **Can you ask Nirreth if the Weyrleader is free to see me?**
Harki asked.

}:Can we get rid of all these bags, first?:{ Cerillith asked. }:Your
things are too heavy.:{

**We need to get assigned a weyr first, love,** Harki reminded her.
**And I _left_ that wonderful dresser, just for you! Be grateful.**

Cerillith heaved a huge sigh. }:I am not a runner. I am meant to fight
Thread, not carry things,:{ she said peevishly. Then, }:Look! There's
Kalamath! And Tapheth! And--:{

**Weyrleader first!** Harki laughed, although she felt much the same
as her dragon. It felt good to be home. Cerillith sighed again, and a
moment later told her rider that the Weyrleader was expecting them.
The green landed on a public ledge near the top of the plateau, and
Harki slid off her dragon's back and planted a quick kiss on
Cerillith's nose before heading into the Weyr's interior to knock on
the Weyrleader's office door. "Do please come in!" G'nir called,
sitting at his desk.

"Greenrider Harki reporting for duty, sir," Harki said as she stepped
into his office. "I'm pleased to meet you, Weyrleader G'nir."

"I'm pleased to meet you too, Harki. Take a seat, please," G'nir
replied with polite gesture toward the visitor's chair across him. He
remembered the name from transfer-request and pulled them out of his
piles of hide work.

Harki took the opportunity to study G'nir, her Weyrleader and
hopefully her Wingleader if she was put back in Azure Wing. He was
younger than she expected, with blond hair and a scarred face that was
rather good to look at none the less. The Weyrwoman probably hadn't
minded finding him in her bed post-Fight.

"So, you're coming back to Dragonsfall Weyr. Any particular reason?"
G'nir asked after quickly eyeing her file to refresh his memory.

"I heard you were looking for transfers after Onnyth's Flight, and I
wasn't as happy at Rising Moons Weyr as I thought I'd be." Harki
shrugged. "Seemed like a good excuse to come home."

"Yes, I did ask for transfers. Seventeen isn't enough to cover the
normal losses between Hatchings," G'nir replied. "Welcome home then,
Harki. Do you have a Wing preference? I see you flew in the
Weyrleader's Wing in the past."

"Yes. And I'd prefer to go back to Azure Wing. I've flown with some of
those wingriders for Turns and I know the flight formations." She
shrugged. "It'd be the quickest way to get me fighting ready."

"All right, you're welcome addition to my Wing," G'nir said with a
smile. "Here's the current schedule," he pushed a hide across the
table. "Have you seen the Headwoman yet?"

She shook her head. "That's my next stop. Cerillith is anxious to get
rid of my bags."

"Well, let her know you'll be joining my Wing and she'll arrange nice
weyr to you," G'nir said. He was firm believer of privileges and that
included also his wingriders. "I do expect top performance from all of
my riders."

"Naturally." Harki glanced at the hide she'd been given. "When do you
want me to start drilling with the Wing?"

"Tomorrow," G'nir replied. "You already know most of your wingmates,
so one day to get over the time difference and settle down should be
enough."

Inwardly she groaned. A day off to unpack would have been a nice way
to say thanks for returning to Dragonsfall, but apparently the new
Weyrleader wasn't going to be accommodating. "That'll be fine."

"Good," G'nir said. "We'll see tomorrow then."

"Tomorrow," Harki said. She smiled brightly as she stood, nodded, and
left. And until tomorrow, she had all the time on Pern...
