"Sir?" D'ale called out and knocked on the door of G'nir's office. "Do
you have a moment?"

"Yes, D'ale, do come in," G'nir replied. As usual, when he wasn't
drilling or holding a meeting, he was doing the hidework. It never
seemed to end. He was pretty sure his pile just grew everytime he
turned his back at it.

"I thought I might get some advice if you don't mind. I'm going to be
bringing a hold woman to the weyr and plan on weyrmating with her. I
visited Lord Zathris and have his blessing to bring Lady Yanley here."

G'nir had just been sipping from his klah-mug when he heard the name.
His klah ended up sprayed all over his desk. "Lady Yanley?" he
sputtered. He was Lord Holder's son, and remembered meeting her once
or twice. All members of Blood knew each other to some extend.

D'ale closed his eyes for a moment "Yes," he replied with a resigned
smile. "Lady Yanley."

"How did that happen? I did hear you had a woman in the hold, but that
it was Lady Yanley?!" G'nir asked, taking a napkin to pat off the klah
droplets. "Did you know my father once considered marrying one of us
with her?"

"I met her at the Tavern at Vintner Hall." The memory brought a smile
to his face. "I didn't know who she was but..." His voice trailed off
and he latched on to the last half of the Weyrleaders words. "I didn't
know that," he said. "You would have been lucky to have her."

"Well, I was the third son, so it would have been very unlikely that I
would had been the one. More likely suitor would had been my oldest
brother. But Golansin beat us all to her," G'nir replied. G'nir looked
D'ale. "Shards, I hope you've been good to her. She's quite a lady."

"Indeed she is," D'ale smiled fondly. "And I can't help but be good to her."

"How's her family taking it?" G'nir asked with concerned tone.
Something like this could damage the relationship between hold and
Weyr. Especially if her kin decided to blame D'ale for ruining her
reputation.

"Better than I thought they would," he smiled. "I believe Lord Zathris
is actually happy to have her come to the Weyr. Not that he wanted her
to leave but for her own sake and the babes."

"I'm glad to hear he's taking reasonable stand on the subject," G'nir
said. "They could have rained all kind of flame on us about it, if
they wanted to. She's welcome here of course, her presence will grace
us," G'nir continued. He paused thoughtfully. He couldn't but think of
his own daughter, being fostered by his parents after her mother died.
Some times he wondered if it was wise. But her situation was bit
different. For most of the hold folk, she was just orphaned relative
of the Lord Holder.

"I'm very glad you feel that way," he said with a nod. "She would have
a rough time of it at the hold."

"Yes, it can be cruel world for an unwed mother..." G'nir said with a
frown. "Don't take this as if I approved of what you have done,
because I don't. This had all the ingredients for a real disaster. We
are fortunate it was averted. I can't condone such behavior from my
riders. Keep away from the hold women from now on," he scolded with
disapproving tone.

Of course, that was like locking the barn after the livestock already
had ran off. And if D'ale was truly serious about it, he wouldn't
watching the hold women any ways.

"Of course not sir," D'ale said with feeling. "I don't approve of my
own actions either." Was it fair to say that he had gotten lost in her
the first time he met her? "I won't be going near other hold women if
I can help it."

"Good. Consider yourself officially warned," G'nir said.

"Yes sir," D'ale nodded.
