K'sedel

Once his meetings were over with for the day, and the rest of the things he had to deal with in a state that they could be set aside, K'sedel headed back to his weyr to bathe and change before meeting Ciara.

It was more than physical attraction, he thought as he pulled out a clean tunic from his wardrobe. That might have been the case at first, but now... Now there was a definite suggestion of more than that. Whether it would go anywhere else was another thing, only time would tell there.

Eventually, he was dressed to his satisfaction, and he headed off to Ciara's weyr.

She answered the door at the first knock, and just a moment later, was then in his arms, kissing him.

"That's the kind of welcome I like," he said after returning the embrace.

She smiled up into his face. "I have dinner all set up for us." Ciara gestured to the table. "And the wine is chilling..." Though she wouldn't be having much of that tonight at all.

"Mmmm.... Sounds good," he said, letting go of her with some reluctance.
"How about I pour us some?"

"How about you just pour yourself a glass for now..." She smiled at him, her eyes bright as she led him over to the table.

"You don't want to join me?"

"It's not that I don't want to drink with you, K'sedel..." she told him as they stood in front of his birthingday feast. Why not have a little fun and drag this out? She was smiling at him when he turned his eyes on her.

"Oh?" He poured his own drink, sniffing the liquid gently. "This smells good," he took a sip, "And tastes good too."

"It should - it's been well-aged."

"Like me you mean," he teased, taking another sip of his drink.

Her smile turned into a grin. "Just like you," she winked. It was true...he was old enough to be her father, but his age didn't sharding matter to her.

"Well how about we have dinner then?" he suggested.

For a while they ate in a comfortable silence. Ciara leaned her elbows on the table and propped her chin up in her hands, thoughtfully watching him finish his last bite of roast, her expression tender.

So much had happened between them since that day Ellianith rose and his Nikornath had caught her. He had seen her through the scare of Cirina's illness. He had supported her. He had taken care of her. He had watched over her.

"A mark for them?" he asked eventually, noticing her watching him. "There is something on your mind, isn't there?"

"There is indeed." Her smile grew, though a slight flutter of nervousness flitted in her belly. What would he say? "Tell me, K'sedel... Would you be averse to having any more children?"

"Why do you ask?" Curiosity rising to the forefront of his mind.

"Because...because I'm pregnant."

"You're pregnant?" he repeated. "Are you sure, have you been to the healers?"

"There's no mistaking the signs..."

He thought for a moment, "How about we go to the healers tomorrow, and get it confirmed?" That made sense, and if she was expecting, well they'd deal with it then. "You'll need to transfer to Tsaera's wing."

It was so hard to read him sometimes...and that nervous fluttering increased. "You didn't answer my question, K'sedel," she said quietly.

Which was because he hadn't answered it to himself. It was always a possibility in a weyr, that flights or other encounters would result in a child. And neither of them had thought to mention taking precautions to prevent conception. "I, I think I could get used to the idea."

She glanced at him, then gave him an almost hesitant smile, still unsure about what he really thought. "I could too."

"How about we see what the healers say?" he suggested. "We can go together, in the morning."

Ciara nodded, looking at him. She knew she was pregnant without having the healers to tell her. She knew she was.

There was one thought niggling at his mind, that it might not be his.
After all, R'yin's dragon had won the flight. But that could wait for the morning, the healers would be able to confirm that she was indeed with child.
