Description: The winsecond checks on one of his riders
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 19 of Turn 7
The boy was his wingrider. He knew things hadn't been easy after what
happened but P'nal was hoping that it wouldn't affect K'ale's relationship
with his wingmates. Still with transfers like Harki coming in because of
what happened, the boy might be thinking about it. So he asked him
to come in and talk to check on things.
K'ale came to the Wingsecond's office at the appointed time and
knocked on the door frame. "Sir, you wanted to see me?"
"I did. Please have a seat." P'nal waited until he'd have a bit of time to
get comfortable then the brownrider decided the best way to get into it
would be to bring up recent happenings. "It's been awhile since we last
spoke one-on-one for a length of time and so much has happened. I
thought it would be good to get your perspective and see how you were
doing with it all."
"Well, I think most of the bad part is over. Until the wings start
feeling the strain of course. Then I'm sure I'll be," he made air
quotes "overhearing complaints again." He shrugged.
"And that's all it is, complaints? No one's gone any further have they?" He
wanted to make sure the boy was safe. Sometimes men got angry and
overstepped their bounds.
"Not recently, no." It had been some time since the Hatching and the
weyrlings were all doing well even though there were so few of them.
Imalkyth tried to watch them all the time when they weren't actively
engaged in drills or Threadfall themselves.
"Mostly it's just overheard comments that I'm obviously meant to hear."
"And do you ever respond to them?" Wondering just how K'ale was dealing
with it, P'nal didn't judge. He just listened.
"Not really," he said. "I talked with Da and he told me to just let it
go. They'll get over it when the next thing happens."
"That's probably true and I am glad that you are handling it well. How's
everything else? Do you find yourself fitting in with the Wing and your mates?"
It was always a concern to make sure the young ones made the right transition.
And once they were used to their duties, he didn't have to pay so much attention
to them.
"Yes," he smiled. "Imalkyth really is good at steadying my group. He
keeps them all in line. We only had one minor scoring in the last
month." K'ale was quite proud of his brown and if P'nal and D'ale were
any indication, he had hopes of becoming a wingsecond himself someday.
"Very well, I'll let you go then, K'ale. If you have any problems,
you'll let me know?"
P'nal checked off the meeting from his list of concerns.
"Yes, Sir." K'ale nodded recognizing the dismissal.
