K'reyel

K'reyel

"Mai?" K'reyel came into the weyr he shared with his harper weyrmate.
"You in here?"

Mai was, but she was curled up in a ball on their bed, sobbing quietly.
Why had she ever told him she might be pregnant? WHY? The Healers said no, she wasn't, and she had started her courses almost right after her visit, as if to add even more emphasis to the truth. The pain astonished her, and she couldn't trust herself to speak at the moment.
K'reyel was going to be as upset as she, if not more.

"Mai??" He looked at her, laid on their bed. "Mai? What's wrong?" He sat down beside her, reaching out, he laid a hand on her shoulder. "Talk to me, please."

Her lovely blue eyes were sad, her face tear-stained as she tentatively raised her head to look at him. She looked at him for a long moment, then finally said, though it was barely audible, "I'm not pregnant.."
and reached for him at the same time to help him over the sting.

He took her in his arms, hold her close, soothing her as he would one if his daughters. He buried his head in her hair for a moment as he dealt with His own sorrow. "It's okay," he said after a moment. "We can try again."

Mai nodded slowly as he took her in his arms. Even in that warm comfort, though, she shivered. "OH K'reyel.. what if we waited too long? What if I'm too old?" She clung fiercely to him, kissing a piece of jawline as she leaned close.

"You aren't too old," he said, hoping he was reassuring her. "We just weren't lucky this month."

"I'm sorry, K'reyel." She said softly, the tears beginning to slow just a bit as he spoke. "I never should have told you until I was sure, but I want to give you children.. more children.. I want it so much."

"I want you," he said. More children would be nice, but the main thing to him was this lovely harper in his arms. She was his world, his anchor, his everything. "If we have children, great, but the main thing is that we are together."

Mai blinked the tears away, lifting her face to stare in pleased shock at her weyrmate, the man who'd given her love. That was.. amazing...
Her heart lifted and all of her pain was swallowed by the intense love she felt coming from him. "K'reyel.. really?" Mystified, she traced his cheek.
"K'reyel.. I love you so much. I just want you, too. But I want a piece of ..us. Something so beautiful should be shared."

"It will happen, you'll make a wonderful mother," he said. "We just have to be patient." A faint smile flickered. "I suppose I'm not the most patient person, although I waited a long time for you to come into my life. And since I don't intend on leaving your side.. ever.. I can be patient about this too." She sighed softly, though, for the hurt she'd caused them both by being too excited. "All we need to do is keep trying."

She smiled at his confidence and snuggled closer. "I hope so, K'reyel, I really do.. " She paused and looked up at him. "Maybe we should practice?" A twinkle began to shine in those lovely eyes. "Maybe indeed."

They practiced so well Mai forgot about ever being upset she could not have provided him with a son, this time.
