G'nir

G'nir

G'nir had been bit hesitant to promote a female to his Wingthird...and
Rorela of all riders. He knew Rorela well, they were clutchmates. The
tiny woman would probably drive him crazy...which wasn't necessarily a
bad thing. A leader needed to stay alert and on his toes all the time.
When he put her gender and mischievous nature aside, he had to admit
she was a sharding good rider. Pretty much perfect record, no
Scorings. She was focused and intelligent and she worked well with the
new, young riders. She was the counterbalance to his rather distant
and formal leading style. Combined with P'nal's steady and prudent
nature, the three of them _should_ be a good work team. Or it would
lead to a disaster. Sometimes you just have to take the risk and see
how it turns out.

"I know she's a bit risky choice, but at least she won't hesitate tell
me when I'm being too stiff," G'nir said to P'nal. Who knew, she might
be able to make him relax too.

P'nal saw the parallels between this and U'kaiah's own wing
leadership. A bronzerider leading with a brownrider as second and a
female green riding third. "I just...after Kenza was behaving so
strange lately I seriously hope Rorela doesn't turn out to be a bad
choice." Of course it was G'nir's choice, but P'nal wasn't too sure
about it from what he knew of the woman. Then again, he rather liked
Harki and she wasn't like most greenriders either. At the very least,
he'd give the woman a shot.

"Kenza seems to have hit the rock bottom, yes. I hope she pulls herself up.
That can happen with anyone. And don't let Rorela's pranks fool you,
she's very smart," G'nir said. He turned to look the door, expecting
her in any minute now.

Rorela came around the corner of the door, one brow arched, but a
smile flickering over her mouth with mirth. "We're all different you
know." She had overheard the last comments, but there was no hint of
offended indignance in her expression. "And yes, I'm smart." Her head
tilted up at the the two men." So, what was I needed for? If it's
advice on greenriders, sorry fellas, but that wouldn't be fair. Must
keep you lot on your toes and all."

P'nal kept quiet. This was G'nir's show for now. He would simply watch and
observe the woman. She could easily refuse the promotion, after all.

"I think I can manage the greenriders without advice, thank you,"
G'nir said dryly. "No, it's something else. Sit down, please." He
gestured towards the free chair.

"Sometimes I wonder." She grinned, but sat, one leg crossed over the
other. "Well, I haven't broken any rules lately, so what's this
about?" Eyes sparkled merrily, full of mischief. "And threesomes
really shouldn't be in an office, especially if the door's open." Her
head tilted as she considered the idea and its possible merits.
"Although...."

G'nir actually rolled his eyes. "This is serious. Would you like to be
my Wingthird?"

Her flash of a grin dropped away at the question and her brows shot
upward in surprise. She glanced at P'nal and then back at G'nir; that
was indeed serious and quite a bit of responsibility. She gave a
slight sigh. "You're always serious, G'nir." She sat back in thought
and rubbed her chin. She noticed P'nal wasn't saying anything, but
could well imagine what was going through the big man's mind. Her mind
worked quickly, moving over the benefits and the possible negatives.
There was no doubt in her mind that she could do it, but would it be
worth it? Her eyes flicked between G'nir and P'nal's straight faces.
Sweet Faranth, it would. They needed to lighten up, if only a little.
Finally, she nodded. "Of course I would."

"Good, welcome in," G'nir said with a smile.

"Something you should know Rorela-whatever you do now will reflect
on your position, your wing, and your leadership. So I would hope that you
would act according to your knots. You're a wingthird in the Weyrleader's
Wing now. All those riders will be depending upon you. Is that something
you can live with if you fail any of them?" Knowing what he did and what he
had done, P'nal needed to know. He wouldn't fly with anyone he couldn't
trust. If she wasn't ready...

G'nir was also curious to hear her answer to P'nal's question.

Rorela leaned forwards, her elbows resting lightly on her knees as she
peered up at both men. "My actions will remain as they always have been. "
She smiled cheekily. "If I had acted any differently, or was less capable, I
wouldn't be sitting here now, being offered that position, now would I?"
She may have been fun-loving, but she was also intelligent. "The riders in
the wing know me and if I started acting differently, the bond we already
have would be changed and we all know that bond is important. I know what
the position entails, but I'm not going to change who I am."

"That bond is why I picked you out. I want you to be the easily approachable
go-between," G'nir said with intensity.

He wasn't completely satisfied with her answer, but P'nal wouldn't remark
upon it. He'd find out the first time whenever she had to be bad guy giving
the orders or even if something happened up there that could be indirectly
her fault. Maybe she could handle it, maybe she couldn't.

"And I can do that." Rorela replied firmly.

"And that's why _you_ got the job," G'nir said.
