Tavia

Tavia

The way the Wing drilled meant that there was a little bit of time
between when Azure and Cyan Wings finished. Harki took advantage of
it, taking enough time to change out of her sweaty riding gear before
hurrying over to see the Weyr's newest greenrider-- and more
importantly, U'kaiah's second squeeze. The woman was smitten enough to
transfer Weyrs for a man, and Harki wanted to meet her without U'kaiah
there. Sometimes he seemed ashamed of their friendship, and she didn't
want him hurrying her out.

Visiting Tavia was almost like going to talk to herself, before she
left Dragonsfall for B'lac. **What a stupid decision that was,** she
thought. At least the man Tavia was transferring Weyrs for was
U'kaiah. U'kaiah was as different from B'lac as one could be... even
still, thinking about Tavia made her feel weird. Oddly protective, and
lonely. And she hadn't even met the sharding woman. It wasn't fair.

Harki knocked.

Tavia had taken Kaiavin to the creche while she unpacked. She knew
U'kaiah had thoughts about the boy's foster mother and they hadn't
settled it as yet. The place had been very well cleaned before she
arrived so she was simply unpacking and getting things situated.

The knock brought her head up. She hadn't expected U'kaiah this early
but whatever. "Come in," she called.

"Wow, they gave you a big one," Harki said as she stepped inside.
Tavia's weyr was almost twice as large as her's, and her weyr was
already a roomy upgrade from the weyr she'd had since weyrlinghood.
**Must be because of the kid,**

Tavia looked up and recognized the knots as a Dragonsfall greenrider.
"Oh hi," she smiled in welcome. "It is pretty big I guess." The place
was certainly larger than the one she'd had at Dolphin Cove and it had
plumbing, lights and she'd been told there was heating for the winter.
She wiped her hands on her trousers. "I'm Tavia," she extended her
hand.

"I know. I've heard only a moderate amount about you, though." Harki
said, shaking Tavia's hand. She was still small, like Aileyan, but not
as overtly pretty. She did have amazingly green eyes, though, Harki
noticed with a twinge of envy. "U'kaiah isn't always as forthcoming as
I think he should be."

Tavia chuckled, "I hear you." Then she tilted her head. "Sorry, I
didn't catch your name?"

"Oh!" Harki slapped herself on the forehead. "I'm always doing that.
I'm Harki, a friend of U'kaiah's. I thought I'd drop by and say hi,
because I'd go grey waiting for him to introduce us."

Tavia's head went back in laughter. "Nice to meet you Harki. How long
have you known U'kaiah?"

"Since we were kids. We're both weyrbrats." Harki looked around for a
place to sit, then perched herself on the edge of Tavia's bed. There
wasn't much free space; the other greenrider was obviously unpacking
and her things were everywhere. It made Harki feel a bit guilty; half
of her things were still in bags. "Cerillith and Kalamath come from
the same Clutch, so we were Weyrlings together too. U'kaiah mentioned
you play waterball?"

"Oh!" Tavia smiled and pointed at the woman, "You're the one that just
came back from someplace else right?" She nodded, U'kaiah had
mentioned it to her. Then she grinned at the mention of waterball.
"Yes, we beat the pants off Dragonsfall a couple of turns back and I
was his consolation prize.. thats how we met."

"Then you can swim."

"Aye," she grinned. "And kick with the best of them. Its' a common
pastime living so close to the ocean at Dolphin Cove. Do you play?"

"Waterball? Not so much," Harki said ruefully. "I never really got
into it. But swimming... there's a lake in Rising Moons territory
that's got the best cliffs for jumping. It's even got an overhang you
can climb out of the water on. You, me and U'kaiah should go someday."

"That sounds like fun," Tavia smiled. As first impressions went she
found she liked the other greenrider. "So, is your weyr around here?"

"Just a few ledges down, actually. So we're sort of neighbours." Harki
smiled. "Feel free to drop by any time. My weyr's door is always
open."

"Sounds good, when I don't have the baby," she smiled. "And maybe you
can show me some of the sights around here. I can't expect U'kaiah to
hang out all the time."

"Probably not. Although I know he'd want to. But I should let you get
back to packing." Harki brushed her palms together as she
straightened. "You look like you have a lot to do."

"Alright," Tavia smiled. "Thanks for stopping by. We'll have to get
together again later."
