Devyn's teeth chattered together as she trudged through the Weyrbowl.
Snow had fallen the day before, and there was still a distinct chill
in the air, despite the winter sun that shone brightly overhead. A
frosty blast of wind skittered through the nearly deserted Weyrbowl,
whipping her hair around her face as she made for the Dining Cavern.
It was still early morning yet, but Ellyth had been restless
throughout the night, and Devyn had found herself unable to sleep.

**Hot, hot klah.** Was the mental thought that drove her as she
entered the warmth of the Dining Cavern and headed straight for the
nearest pitcher of the dark hot liquid. Cupping the steaming mug
between her hands, Devyn didn't even bother with sweetener but lifted
the scalding drink straight to her lips.

"Thank Faranth." She sighed after the first sip.

The screech that rent through the quiet morning air made Devyn flinch,
and she cursed as some of the hot klah sloshed out onto her hands. The
rushing, twisting feeling in the pit of her stomach told Devyn
everything that she needed to know. Ellyth was rising. For days the
green had been testy and proddy. At least _that_ part was over.

}:Wake up!:{ Ellyth screeched at some of the sleeping male dragons on
their ledges.

No one had to tell Jodeth twice. The brown was quick and ready, shaking his
wings to get rid of the damp and the cold. His eyes took on that
familiar red whirl as he readied himself. He stretched his legs,
wings, and body. He knew this one.

The familiar stab of flight lust hit him and D'ale knew there was a
flight and that Torerath was going to chase. There was a momentary
concern in his mind for Yanley but he turned on his heel and headed to
the flightroom.

G'nir had woken up early and was just returning from a running
exercise when Nirreth annoynced his intention to chase. Annoyance
flickered to the Weyrleader's face. He would had preferred bath and
breakfast. Since he didn't have any urgent coming up this morning, he
decided to indulge his bronze. So he headed for the feeding pens.

Sh'lua would have preferred to stay in warm bed with warm greenrider
for a while yet, but Galerith decided otherwise. With regret he said
goodbye's to the warm body next to his and got up. He didn't bother
with clothes. He would just end up taking them off again. One way or
another. He just pulled on pants to cover the indecent body parts.

As the males gathered for the chase, Devyn walked back across the
Weyrbowl toward the flight weyrs. Her steps were decidedly faster
paced this time. There was a particular bronze that was missing from
the line up, and the greenrider felt her lips turn down as she
wondered about J'darin's absence.

Ellyth screeched at the assembled dragons, very pleased at the strong
males that had turned out for her flight. }:Let's go boys!:{ She
rocketed upwards.

D'ale didn't do much more than follow her toward the flight rooms the
same as the rest of the pack of riders. Torerath on the other hand
launched after the green with a mighty sweep of his wings and a bugle
to answer her challenge.

When she was gone, he was gone. As a brown, Jodeth realized his competition
had advantages and disadvantages. Some of the other males he knew well-like
Nirreth. He spent some time considering them before his focus shifted-onto her
and her alone. It had been good before and it would be good again and he wanted
her.

The wingsecond took his place, though he remained slightly away from Devyn.
He didn't press, though he felt Jodeth's need to be closer. He had to
keep her in his sights. She couldn't get away-no.

Nirreth called his challenge and launched after her. He ignored the
other males. He was bronze in his prime, why wouldn't she choose him?

Galerith didn't hesitate. He answered her }: I'll follow you anywhere,
my beauty! :{ The large blue relied to his experience, being a deft
green-catcher.

In moments D'ale was Torerath feeling the currents in the air with his
wings and wooing the beguiling prize as she darted through the skies.
He was well versed in green tricks and waited patiently for her to
make the wrong turn so he could snare her.

Devyn's body tingled as the delicious warm waves of the flight washed
over her. Through her eyes all she could see was the sky, just as
Ellyth saw it as she darted this way and that. The green crooned at
Galerith, pleased with his bit of flattery, but she still continued
forward, after all, there were still other worthy males there as well!

}:You may follow Galerith, but you will not finish:{ Jodeth thought to himself.
The brown was just itching to cradle her in his claws and fall with her. She was
a beauty. At least Galerith had that much right. Easily outdistancing
the smaller dragons, he pushed forward to get closer to her.
Greenflights weren't long so it
was necessary to make your move earlier.

Nirreth easily out pace Jodeth, barrel-rolling to impress the green.

}:Oh, please!:{ little blue Kaeth snorted at the bronze. Nimbly he
darted around the Weyrleader and paced himself in a burst of speed
almost to the shoulder of the beautiful green.

Torerath bided his time swooping into a nearby cloud to hide his dark
bulk in the clear bright sky. If she were to turn in his direction he
would snare her and he told her so. "Come to me lovely one."

The brown was certainly appealing, and in a split-second decision,
Ellyth flew to him, despite her familiarity with her last mate,
Jodeth. She eagerly locked talons with Torerath, crooning with
pleasure at her decision as they twined necks. On the ground Devyn
imitated her green, going eagerly to D'ale.

Torerath bugled his victory and folded his wings around her glowing
beauty. On the ground D'ale did the same and carried Devyn through the
curtains.
