Part 1 of 3
Yanley had spent a restless night, tossing and turning in the bed and
getting up to visit toilet every so often. So when the sun peered over
horizon, she finally gave up any further attempts to sleep. Her
pregnancy had lasted past the due-date, as it was normal for first
pregnancies. It didn't make the wait any easier. And now she was
feeling very uncomfortable. The baby seemed to press heavily against
her pelvis and her back ached.
D'ale was concerned for Yanley, He'd tried to make certain she was as
comfortable as she could be and he endeavored to get her anything she
even hinted she might like but he knew this part of the pregnancy was
hard on her. She'd been restless the last few nights and wasn't
getting much sleep as far as he could tell. "Hey," he said softly in
her ear. "Want me to rub your back?"
"That would be wonderful," Yanley gave him a tired smile. "But I need
klah first."
"I can handle that too," he said and flipped the covers off swinging
his legs over the side of the bed. Pulling on his trousers he pulled a
tunic over his head before running down the stairs to the kitchen to
grab a fresh pot and some hot food.
Yanley got up too and busied herself with her usual morning chores.
Thi and Bram were watching her from a shelf, humming softly, but she
ignored them. Until a wet warmness spread to her legs. "Oh!" she only
know realized why she was so uncomfortable and why her back ached.
D'ale kicked the door open and carried the tray toward the table. His
eyes popped open as he recognized the humming and slid the tray on the
table. "Yanley, are you alright?"
"The water broke, finally. You better get Chupsin," Yanley replied
with a sheepish grin.
D'ale froze for a moment while his jaw worked, then his wingsecond
brain kicked in and he called Torerath from the heights where he was
sunning with his latest green conquest. "Right," he said. "Do you want
me to get Taren to attend you while I go for Chupsin?" He put his arm
around her shoulders. "Shall I get you back to bed?" He didn't want to
leave her alone at a time like this. "Where are the notes?" He knew
she'd prepared notes for her firelizards to deliver when the time
came.
"There," she pointed the nightstand. It was cute how men reacted to
child births. "There's no rush, I barely have any contractions," she
said and kissed him.
Her calm made him stop and take a deep breath. He hadn't been present
for either of his other children's' births so this was new territory.
He smiled and kissed her back. Then taking the notes he called her
flits and fastened them to their legs. He knew she'd let Chupsin know
he was coming. "I'll be right back," he said before he ran for the ledge.
