With his carisak in hand, he got down from the wagon. Standing there, he felt his gaze go up to the mountains and hills in the distance. They were majestic to say the least. Then they came back down, not looking at the Hold, but instead seeing the river. Rohagelen found himself walking towards it, carrying his things over his shoulder. The smell was of clean, fresh water, likely coming from the mountains. His boots made small thuds as they crossed over the dirt and the small rocks.
"So this is home. Looks peaceful at least." He turned around and headed back to the Hall. He would have to report soon to find out where he was supposed to go. He hoped he could bathe and get a meal before he would need to meet with any of the journeymen or Masters. Pulling a tunic-clad arm up, he sniffed the sleeve. "Not good." Walking into the entrance, he saw some of the other boys coming out.
He was young and he knew it. He didn't return their looks of curiosity. Instead, he walked inside and tried to find his bearings. **Maybe it's this way?** Going down the hallway, he hoped he might find the Headwoman soon. His tunic was well worn and so were his trousers. To say the least, his traveling clothes weren't well kept. They were stained and he was dirty. **I should have washed my face in the river.** Indecision ran across his face. **Should I go back?**
He thought about his father and wondered what his father would do. Pulling out a cloth from his inside pocket, he spat into it and used it to wipe his face as best he could. He needed to get his hair cut too. **Maybe I can do it myself with the knife later.** His boots were heavy now on the floor and he heard every step echo as he came closer and closer to his new life. Missing his brothers and sisters already, he wished he could go back home.
This was an honor, though, to be sent to craft. He would have a better life and could come back to help his family. He was going to learn things and see more of Pern. Coming to a stop at the end of the hallway, he saw two doors. Realizing neither of them was the entrance to the Headwoman's office, he sighed and ran a dirty hand through his curls. "This is not going well."
Bringing his body around, he went back the other way. He saw someone heading the other direction. "Excuse me, is the headwoman's office that way?" After receiving an answer, he went in that direction. It took some time but he found the right door. Standing outside it, he shoved his trouser legs down over his boots and pulled his sleeves down. Then, he adjusted his hat.
"I am Rohagelen, son of Arohin. I am here to become a vintner." He was very serious as he whispered it. Looking down, he checked his belt and his tunic toggles. With everything as it should be, he brought his head back up again. Light brown eyes stared ahead at the closed door. **Are you ready?**
**I am a man now. I am on my own and will make my family proud. I will not fail.** He finally began to wonder, perhaps a little too late, if he could make wine. Was it as easy as growing tubers? It seemed to be in shorter supply and worth more marks, at least. A good vintner lived better than a good farmer, though maybe didn't have as much to eat. "I am Rohagelen, son of Arohin. I am here to become a vintner." He said it a little bit louder that time.
Reaching out a hand, he knocked on the door. **Is she there?** Brows pulled together as he considered having to find her somewhere within the Hall. That would take time and might mean he wouldn't get a bath or a meal. His stomach made a small noise in protest of that possibility. It had been awhile since he had eaten. He heard steps. And then the door opened.
