After coming in, he knew he had to report to the Headwoman for his
clothing, knots, and quarters. Rohagelen wandered about for some time
before finding her office. The young man knocked on the door once,
then waited.
"Come in." Chaysea called, and looked up as a youth entered her
office, "Afternoon, what can I do for you?" She asked with a smile.
"I just got here ma'am and I need clothes and a cot." His eyes travelled
around the room before focusing on her. She was a younger woman, but
she seemed capable. "Junior Apprentice Rohagelen."
"Well met then, Apprentice," Chaysea said, reaching into a desk drawer
and pulling out the appropriate rank knots for the boy, "Here you can
put these on, and we'll go to the storage room and get you some
clothes." She said, putting what she had been working on aside as she
stood.
He took the knots and switched his current ones for those deftly though it
took some time. Then he turned to follow her on her way. The boy looked around
at those they passed.
Chaysea took them a short ways down to the end of the hall where one
of the first storage room was located. It held mostly clothes, boots,
and other necessities that people would need at the vintner hall.
Pushing the door open, she propped the heavy portal open with a wooden
block. "Allright, let me see," she eyed Rohagelen to try and gauge his
size, "these should probably fit," she grabbed a couple of pairs of
folded pants.
She looked down at his feet, "How are your shoes? There are some boots
there along the wall. See if you can find your size."
"I could probably use a new pair." His were serviceable but it was better to
have two pair-especially in Amber Hills' climate. Walking forward, he took his
time before finding a pair that looked relatively new and would fit. Taking his
off, he tried them on to make sure.
While the youth tried on boots, Chaysea turned to another shelf and
fished out a few tunics. A couple for casual, every day use, and then
one nicer tunic for any special occasions at the Hall or Hold. Taking
the neatly folded stack of clothing, Chaysea opened a carisak and
deposited the items inside, "Okay, have I missed anything?" she asked,
tapping a finger to her lips and looking around.
He didn't think that was a question he was supposed to answer so he
kept his mouth shut. He watched her though and looked at the things around.
They didn't have this much stuff at the cothold by far. **Living in the Hall is
definitely going to be different**
"Allright, well, I think that is enough to get you started." Chaysea
said, handing Rohagelen the sack of clothes and supplies to carry, "If
you realize that you need something just let me know and I will see if
I can get it for you. Now, I will take you to where you will be staying."
He listened and understood. Following the headwoman, he prepared for his
first trip to the barracks. He had shared a room before with his siblings so this
was nothing new. Still he understood that many boys in one place could make
for some difficulties.
Leading Rohagelen into the barracks where he would be staying with the
other boys his age, Chaysea showed him to an empty bunk, "Here you go,
the trunk at the foot of the bed is all yours. If you need anything
else just come see me in my office."
"I will. Thank you ma'am." He would report to the Master of Apprentices for
his schedule once he got his things unpacked and organized and into his new
clothes. He gave the Headwoman a small smile, knowing he didn't need to take
up any more of her time.
