A Mother's Sadness

Writers: April
Date Posted: 27th January 2006

Characters: Karaya
Description: Karaya tries to deal with the fact that her babies have gone to a foster mother.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 10, day 2 of Turn 3

Karaya wandered through her now quiet weyr and sighed. It had only been two
days since her babes had moved to their foster mother's and already Karaya
was feeling depressed. She knew that the time would come for them to go but
couldn't convince herself that it was best. Having lived in a hold all her
life she had been taught that a mother cared for her children.

Karaya sat quietly on the couch and picked up one of the twin's blankets
that been left behind. She looked at it with sadness in her eyes. The room
was far to quiet for her. She should be happy that she could return to her
wing and not have to worry as much. Yet, every time she looked at the tiny
blanket she would have to stop a tear.

She slowly got to her feet and walks into the room she shared with her
weyrmate. She looked over the perfectly cleaned room and couldn't help but
turn her attention to the twin's crib. They had decided to keep the crib in
case there was a need for it later. She sat down on the edge of her bed and
the tears came.

She was unsure of how long she stayed there and wept but she was sure she
needed to. Her heart ached for the return of her babes. From her ledge
Rayeth sent love to her distraught rider. She didn't understand why Karaya
was so upset. It was enough that she was upset. Being a dragon the concept
was beyond her.

}:They will be well. Your hatchlings are not far away. They are well taken
care of and Sky watches them.:{ She tried to soothe her rider.

** I know. It doesn't make it easier. I still wish them here with me. I
know this is best but.I'll be fine. Don't worry my dear.** She quickly
dried her eyes and beagn getting ready for the evening meal. It would not
do for her weyrmate to see her in such a state. She did not want him to see
her sad. She put on a smile as she left the weyr to meet him. She smiled as
her bronze flit led the way through the halls.
